Motor Swap Qs
hey guys, as some as you may have seen i picked up a roller and im swapping my motor and trans into it. but heres the thing... the old car was a 93(speed density,OBI) and the new car is a 95(MAF,OBDII) The roller does not have the "computer" itself but it does have the rest of the harness. So my question is, can i just take the "brain" from my 93 and plug it into the harness thats there? or do i need to tear about the whole thing and switch it?

Gonna say no. 93 ECM would be a prom chip, 95 PCM would be a flash memory.
|
you can do one of two things, convert the engine to 95+ with a vented opti and the whole nine yards or swap the harness. i would personally just go with an EFIconnection setup for tuning purposes since thats what ill probably be doing shortly anyway
|
No, you will need the same year harness+ECM. Just off the top, 92-93s harnesses have different pin configurations, such as batch fire W/22lb injectors, 94+ and sequential and 24LBs, and the opti etc. Dash feeds for gauges such as speed-O, If it's an auto then there are more issues, 93s were 700R4 trans, no provision for the 94+ electronic trans controls.

Just get a PCM from a 95. |

Hit up a junkyard or ebay for a used 95 PCM. Shouldn't be that much.

Well you may get lucky and call the tuner who did it the first time and ask them if they have it on file. Maybe they saved it and can load it on the 95 PCM. But again, the tune will be off. Speed density vs. MAF etc.

i would stick your 93 harness in there personally. they aren't hard to remove. some sensor pigtails may be different lengths and that would blow. |
I also say swap the whole harness, maybe even dash w/harness too. its a little more involved yes but easier and then you can still sell off the newer harness.
edit: ...and did you say the stock 93 camaro trans was a th350? It was a 700r4 still with the TV cable, but maybe i missed somewhere in a diff thread that it had a th350 swapped in. |
no, he put a th350 in his car
