Plastic Repair?

Okay so this is a question about my DD not the camaro.

It's a 2001 Cavalier. The B pillar on the car is the typical late 90s black plastic (look like it's clear coated).

The glossy finish on the b pillar is now cracking flaking off. Does anyone have any trick/tips for restoration?

Thanks in Advance for the advice.

wet sand it with 400 grit paper until there is no gloss left and all of the flaking paint has been removed....then you can either use a rattle can paint made for plastic or shoot it with regular bc/cc or single stage out of a gun. Depends on the condition of the rest of the car and how crazy you want to go with cost of the repair.

Another little trick is if you have access to a sandblasting cabinet, is turn the pressure WAY down on your compressor, while blasting still keep the plastic a ways away from the gun, and gently blast the plastic. I have done countless kick panels and other interior plastics this way and they all come out great, and it keeps any texture the original piece had.

Just make sure you keep the pressure low, and the piece away from the gun. I also use glass bead on this. I think other abrasives may be too much.

HardcoreZ28: I was afraid someone would confirm my fears, that I might have to wet sand and re-clear the plastic. Do you have any recommendations for a good rattle can brand? Duplicolor?

Thanks for the help guys
