Cant shift after tune ?

.....

Savage_Messiah 11-28-2009 05:16 PM

Why not let it do its job and shift itself?

NastyEllEssWon 11-28-2009 05:18 PM

why shift an auto?

JerzLT1 11-28-2009 05:19 PM

your not supposed to shift it, thats why its called an automatic. i can assure you that the computer can shift faster and more accurately then you every single time

FASTEDDIE Z 11-28-2009 05:48 PM

Yes , but to make it stay in 1st ( while in drive ) You have to be into the throttle pretty hard . Now with my 373's and my torq. management turned down .It just burns the tires . With the car in 1st ( manualy ) I can control the wheel spin and "pedal it" with ( 1/2 or 3/4 throttle ).Otherwise if I try to do a roll-on at 10mph I have to floor it to make it go into 1st .Then ,, pooof!!! The tires go up in smoke til 3rd gear .Not exactly good for racing .When I go to the track Ill use "D" and floor it  . But on the street where traction sometimes isnt all that good,

NJ Torque 11-28-2009 06:04 PM

Sounds like you need new tires.

LOL !! Theyre on the way .I was hoping I wouldnt need them til after the stall converter . .Im waiting for the tuner to get back to me .

NJ Torque 11-28-2009 06:41 PM

My car bolt ons with 3.73s would kill tires from a 30 roll...

FASTEDDIE Z 11-28-2009 06:52 PM

Now I know !! With the 273's it felt ok . But now ,, much better .

JSPERFORMANCE 11-28-2009 07:48 PM

FASTEDDIE Z 11-29-2009 06:38 AM

Ok ...

NastyEllEssWon 11-29-2009 07:35 AM

maybe your just ruining your transmission by making it perform something its not meant to do?

FASTEDDIE Z 11-29-2009 07:52 AM

I dont think so . I dont shift manually very often .Thanks for trying to help everbody .

NastyEllEssWon 11-29-2009 07:57 AM

im under the assumption the the gears arent meant to be shifted manually on the automatic and more or less the available gear selects are meant situationally...like going up a steep hill or down a steep hill using the engine as a brake instead of riding the brakes down a hill.

Worn cable?

camaro2you 11-29-2009 10:40 AM

so what your saying is when you have the shifter down in first gear and bump the shifter up to second it will stay in first gear until you let of the accelerator. Correct?

01blackz28 11-29-2009 11:09 AM

This can be a sign that your transmission is on its way out. What color is the fluid? My friends lt1 a4 started doing exactly what you described. Soon enough the car only had reverse.

Correct !! Maybe the increased line pressure from the tune ?? It shifts real well when in drive ,no slippage at all .Fluid doesnt look dark either . Guess Ill start with changing thr fluid and filter in the trans . THANK YOU !!

camaro2you 11-29-2009 04:47 PM

Its something with the transmission tune not allowing the valve body to change out of first to second when manually shifting, when you shift does it go to second at all or just bounce the limiter?

But the good answer WAS given.. He is manually shifting a transmission that is not designed to be operated that way. All sorts of things can be affected by this, ie. increased band, drum, and sunshell wear/tear just to name a few.

Problem lies in the driver, it is the symptom that was not explained..

I almost NEVER shift manually . Only once in a while ,like racing on the track or street . Maybe once or twice a month .

Dosent matter if you do it once or everyday your issue occurs when you are doing something you are not supposed to be doing.. While under high load is when you are going to do the most damage. If you didnt shift the car manually we wouldnt even have this thread in the first place..
