Header Welding

Really tired of the AIR/EGR ports on my long tubes. If I cut them off and grind the metal bare, a simple weld job will work and then some spray high temp paint to cover it up correct?

Would this be a job that an exhaust shop could handle or should I bring it to a more specialized place?

Would an exhaust shop even want to have anything to do with disabling emissions equipment?

Why not?

Header would be off, all they would be doing is patching a hole.

dude i can do that for you if you want... adam has a welder... the line was rusty though the last time i looked at it... but maybe if you feed enough out it will clear up... and just need to make sure that he has the argon for it... its steel... let me know...

transmaro93 12-11-2009 06:18 PM

yea i should go to adams shop first though to make sure the welder is working good... do some dummy peices to make sure and if so then yes itll take like 10 minutes... so let adam know to let me know when its a good time check it out and ill head over there... im sure he has some old heavy steel or old headers i can fudge up a little....

LTb1ow 12-11-2009 06:26 PM

Well lemme know, I am home for break Weds. so if you say that welder is good to go, I will have em off and prepped for you ASAP.

transmaro93 12-11-2009 06:32 PM

ok ask adam if i can use his welder and shop... haha im not gonna invite my self there... btw... your gona wanna paint these because if not youll have a huge shinny grinding spot and then old header showing... it will look nasty otherwise.... just a heads up on that

LTb1ow 12-11-2009 06:34 PM

Yea, I was thinking a quick black high temp spray job.

sweetbmxrider 12-13-2009 12:27 PM

well the welder works. get some argon and have at it.

LTb1ow 12-13-2009 12:30 PM

Argon?

Wtf.

ib4200 12-13-2009 12:53 PM

the argon is to shield from o2 while welding isnt it?

sweetbmxrider 12-13-2009 02:51 PM

ya, and the tank is empty. it also helps up the temperature some. keeps the weld clean

LTb1ow 12-13-2009 03:05 PM

Ok, how big is the tank and is it still cert?

sweetbmxrider 12-13-2009 03:34 PM

according to brandon, SMALL! and i dono, the gauge is busted too so don't really know what its set at. if you have other means of attaining some gas, go for it.
