Ignition harness question

I need to get a new ignition harness(not sure if thats the correct name) it runs from the starter switch to where ever. Mine is all hacked up from a previous owner and its causing issues. A friend of mine whos good at wiring said all I need is that harness. I know alot of the junkyard I go to have 6 banger camaros and I could get one from there. I'm wondering are they they same as the V8 cars or do they have a different wiring set up?

there are 2 harnesses under the hood, the engine harness and the body harness. I cant recall if the starter wires are on one or the other. It may be easier just replacing the damaged wires alone, and not the whole harness. The wires going to the starter are pretty simple. Large gauge wire from battery, small purple to ignition(starter activation) and then possible a few others with fusible links that run the circuits that come on with the ignition on.

Do you guys have any suggestion, I know the problem is by the steering column, there is a plastic plug type piece that if I accidently hit, it shuts the engine off. When my friend checked it out he said the wires get extremely hot when its on. Whatever the issue is I need to do it myself now, since he ignores me everytime I mention him finishing what he started.
