car security?

Just bought a new truck and I've never had more money invested into a car like this. So I'm looking to protect it somehow. What's worth buying for security purposes; alarm system, club like thing, lojack, window vin etching, etc.

Prob gona put a automatic starter on it so might get a combo starter/alarm system but wasn't sure which are better to be looking at.

if it new, does the dealership offer anything. That way you will have no warranty questions/problems if somethign goes wrong?

Off factory warranty

Most alarm systems will increase your protection level a fair amount, but a good thief can get around 95% of them without much work. Lo Jack is really a good system, and most insurance companies will also give you a pretty sizeable discount for having it installed. My brother talked to his agent about a discount if he had LoJack installed on his '05 Ram, and it worked out to almost 20% off of his normal insurance premium.

Also - I have no experience with one, but I have heard that the club and similar devices are also pretty much a non-issue for experienced car thieves.

I agree 100%, if they want it and they know what they r doing, its there. Just looking for a layer or two of deterrence for my own peice of mind. Lo jack is crazy exp to put on. Might have to just do it though.

Might just start with a "viper" like alarm and go from there.

the club is a joke, there's a reason it's barely used anymore. all it takes is a hacksaw to the steering wheel and the club is off.

ive also personally got around that locking mechanism that applies to the brake pedal.

If you really want to protect it lojack is the best way to go. Wait, wouldnt the truck be able to use onstar? I don't know much about onstar but does that serve as vehicle tracking in the event a car is stolen?

LoJack is pretty expensive (IIRC, my brother was quoted ~$750), but if you insurance rates drop considerably and you keep the vehicle for a while, you'll make your money back and have some peace of mind.

thats when they came out with the club shield. They claimed it was for airbag protection, but you know it was a lie.

I don't believe so - you pay a high initial cost, and the system stays dormant until you report it stolen.

I have my own lojack and locator on my ride. Believe me if my ride disappeared I will be going hunting myself. The thief will wish to be in locked up then
