more headlight motor ?'s

so my autozone reman'd headlight motor started the grinding and going up and down with the keyless entry thing, took it out, used the lifetime waranty and got another one, went to install it and it was set up for the passenger side, took the screws out and flipped it around to work on the driverside and installed it, worked good, except now it spins to long on the way upppp and makes the grinding noise when turning them on, WTF! however it doesnt happen all the time or with the keyless entry.

is there some adjustment im missing here? the wiring harness side of the connector (not the headlight motor side) is corrodid on the inside and i had to bend one of the prongs to make the connection and loaded it up with bulb grease

Mike,

The motors are different for each side. The bodies are the same, but where the shaft comes out is opposite sides. Im trying to picture how you flipped them but cant.

If it is grinding, then it already chewed up the nylon gear. I would just pop the covers off and flip the gear 180 and put it back in. I normally use JB weld to hold the cover back on.

pull the motors out and see if you can wiggle the worm gear drive against the gear. There are four 90* clips that hold them together. Put the motor in a vice, and light tap on them with a hammer and screwdrive to tighten them up. They will come loose after time. The tq of the motor loosens them. Don't hit it too hard or else you'll punch through the plastic. (Ask me how I know)

Also, make sure the arms that connect them to the headlights aren't backwards, I did the before too and it makes them not go up corrently.

I've done these quite a few times ...

i removed the 3 screws that hold the cover on and flipped the insides around, looked like it would work fine, replaced the cover and screws and was good to go!
