Need help identifying which Turbos I have

As some of you know, I am attempting to sell my APS Twin Turbo system for 98-02 LS1 Camaros/Firebirds. I finally got around to opening the two large boxes it came in and now I have most everything sprawled out on the living room floor to take pictures of.

I opened the two boxes with both Turbos in them and I am still have trouble identifying what turbos I have. I know there has been mention that APS started giving cheap Chinese Turbos. I want to see what I have.

On the turbos, it says Ø90.1 and 6N and K2 imprinted on the metal part of the turbo.

I am going to upload photos in a few minutes.

Here are some pictures. Not sure if any of these will help in identifying the Turbo.

it looks to me like a chinese made ebay turbo. any half decent reputable company would have their name on it.

redbanditZ28 02-15-2010 07:10 PM

Do most companies have the model on it? There's not much on it to identify it.

S.J.SLEEPER 02-15-2010 07:16 PM

chinese turbo.... and yes most manfacturers will have a part # or will be stamped what the a/r is and such.
sometimes the part # will have the specs in it also.

Okay, next question. Does anyone know what size turbo or how I should go about informing what turbo this is to any potential buyer?

I just want to get rid of this thing ASAP because I need the money pretty soon. I don't want any returns or refunds. I just want to get rid of it ASAP but not take too much of a cut in losses.

Thanks.

According to an APS representative, this is the manufacturer and model of the Turbo. Are these one in the same as the cheap Chinese ones?

Mitsubishi TD06-20G's, in custom end housings, which are 50 lb/min units at a 2,5:1 pressure ratio. (Around 22 psi boost),

thats what they claim. didnt you see the thread on ls1tech about APS ripping people off with cheap ebay turbos, then when confronted about it they denied it and stopped supporting fbody turbo kits.

legit td06 20g's run well over a grand for a clean single, so unless you bought them for 2 grand or more im gonna assume you got ripped

edit: that doesnt look like a td06 housing and looks mighty small for a 20g

Yeah, I saw the thread, but I don't know anything about what identifies the a good turbo from the bad one. I don't even know if the turbo the sales rep told me I have it a good or bad one.

How would I know for sure if these Turbos are what the APS rep says they are?

I don't think I got jipped in the sense that I paid $4500 for the introductory price and it looks like everything else outside of the turbos would be worth that much for a system like this. I'd feel jipped if I paid the $6000 price tag.

I just want to sell this thing. I mean I have pictures I can show to potential buyers. And all I can really go on is what the manufacturer told me I have. I don't want to falsely sell something and jip a buyer, but I have nothing else to really go on if no one can properly identify these turbos.

sounds like this whole thing was a pretty good investment on your part

Squirrel 02-16-2010 01:11 AM

Blacdout96 02-16-2010 07:47 AM

It was at the time. But things have changed. If I don't end up selling it, I'll keep it because the rest of the system looks pretty good to me. Based on what other owners have told me, the rest of the system is excellent except for the turbos. So I could always get new turbos if I end up keeping it.

It's kind of an all or nothing deal. Either I sell it completely and see how much I can get for it or I keep it and eventually put it on. Either way it's a win win.

Foosh 02-16-2010 12:18 PM

i'd say put it on, your not going to get a great return on your investment the other way.

redbanditZ28 02-16-2010 01:14 PM

I am going to at least try to sell this thing. If aftermarket auto websites are still selling this system on their websites, it doesn't seem impossible to sell it. Even if I break even, that would be fine with me. Let's see what happens.

I'm not a bad guy and I don't want to sell something with the wrong info given. But even though these turbos aren't considered to be good, that doesn't mean they are defective either. Cheap may be cheap, but that doesn't equal a faulty part. It was just incorrectly advertised. It doesn't mean the turbos don't work. I think many people lose sight of that. But if these aren't the Mitsubishi turbos, I don't know what to tell the person who buys this system what turbos they really are.

NastyEllEssWon 02-16-2010 01:46 PM

cheap means cheap and it means that people were using them, they were failing and blowing up very expensive motors that they were hooked up to. honestly, keep the system, ebay the turbos and pick up a real set of turbos if youre going to use it.

Exactly, keep all the plumbing and sell the turbos for a decent pair. You will be better off in the long run

Slo86Bird 02-16-2010 10:08 PM
