Opinion on storing a bike
 

SO i've been looking at bikes... and I'm playing with the idea of getting one... but i have a little problem. My house only has a driveway, no garage and parking by my house is tight. I wouldnt wanna just leave it outside anyway. does anybody here store there bike some where else? or store anything somewhere else?

How do you feel about that? any opinions or advice welcome..

Find a buddy with a decent garage and get front & rear stands, a cover, a big ass chain with lock & good insurance.

I store mine in my own garage, but I have a buddy that stores his at an off-site garage he rents. I also know some people who regularly store their bikes at those u-store its.

that was my first thought (the offsite/ storage place) but i wonder if thats expensive? and if take any responsibility against theft or damage or somethingg? anything? can u get insurance that covers that stuff?

orr would all that stuff just not be worth the hassle?

When you get the bike insured they usually ask where you store it. So I'm assuming that factors into your rates. Don't cheap out by not getting full coverage. If a thief wants your bike that badly they can & will get it.

My bike is currently uninsured only because I wont be home for the next 4 months, but its wedged between my Camaro in the garage.

do you usually insure it all year round?

I usually insure it all year round for those freak warm winter days. Plus just in case something happens to it in storage.

You're better off insuring it year round. If the place you’re storing it at has a fire then at least you would be covered.

This month's Popular Mechanics had a great article about storing cars, but the same can be applied to bikes. It’s definitely worth the read.

Stabil & a battery tender, its pretty basic stuff. What kind of bike are you looking to get?

Yeap. And once in awhile I go and start it up and let it run.

I keep mine in my basement! but only because its a project at the moment. but i used to have a little tarp style tent i kept my first one in on the side of my house. Worked decently. I havent owned a bike worth stealing yet so i haven't had any worries with that
