Music Organization tools?

I'm in the process of backing up my computer and I was wondering if there are any programs that can automatically organize all your music by artist album and what not. I tried to use it through i-tunes but for some reason it didn't do anything. I used to use iTunes for everything but recently switched to WinAmp, and now everything is disorganized, missing info the whole 9 yards, its become a real headache for 2000+ songs.

MediaMonkey is pretty good for organizing songs. WinAmp has a feature that will allow you to auto-tag songs with info off the internet.

I switched from WinAmp to iTunes a few weeks ago. When it comes to time sorting music, iTunes > WinAmp

I use iTunes, and you know, if they're not all in the same folder it won't work right?

wait did you use the "get cd track names" thing in itunes? it usually works good

I'm saying this blindly, but does songbird do anything like that? I stream all my music so it's been a while since I've had it locally.

I tried to use the "consolidate music" on iTunes, but all it does is make copies of the songs into organized folders and it ended up cutting out halfway through.

Kinda sucks because the sound quality out of WinAmp is 10x's better with this add on that I got over iTunes, but I still use my ipod on a regular basis when I work out & run. I'm hoping the iPhone comes to Verizon so I can just eliminate the Black Berry & ipod.

I manage to successfully use WinAMP and iTunes with no issues. I have all my music (7k+ files) loaded into iTunes so I can cycle it in and out of my iPod Touch with ease, but for normal music listening at home I pretty much only use WinAmp (and a very old version too....2.8x IIRC).

Anyway, I had some headaches when I first started using iTunes since their sorting is all done via id3 tags, and WinAmp will use either the id3 tags or filenames. I am still sorting through some of my music in iTunes to correct id3 tags that either don't exist, or are incorrect. Most of this was music I got through p2p sites back when I was in college.

I ended up manually sorting the music alphabetically by artist, then album. It took a while but once I got the files close to their appropriate place everything started to run a lot smoother. I ended up downloading album cover images and saving them in the matching folder so when I upgrade to an iTouch or iPhone I can have it all neatly organized. It bothers me when I see peoples playlists on the newer ipods without the album info, I don't know why.

^ do you eat your food in alphabetical order as well? =p
