its a toss up, so who knows ...
An even better question to think about .... Should the NHL pause for 2 weeks for the 2014 olympics? Would your answer be different is USA wasn't in the final?? |
w00t, tie game!
Tim, IMO no they should tell the IOC to FO. I would not stop my sport for anyone. |
they blew it! Canada wins

I'm still dead set against NHL players playing in the Olympics but what a freakin tournament this was...and what a game tonight....hopefully this converted some people to become fans of a REAL sport. It sucks the US came up short but they don't have to leave the tournament in shame nor hang their heads. They played ridiculous hockey and proved that Cana-duh isn't the only hockey superpower. What a tournament, THAT my friends is what hockey is all about... |
Shut down in both the mens and womens...ugh.
America overall did show up big time!! I cannot believe how well we did. Would have been nice to have more golds.... |
i agree with the nhl doing what they are doing for now, they need eyes, they need ratings, and they need help...if some of the people that caught it on the Olympics and fell back in love with the game stick around and tune in to the nhl games, and it helps the nhl get back on network and prime time tv, then its the best thing for the sport
now, when and if all that happens, i think the nhl should maintain its schedule through the Olympics and let the amateurs play in the Olympics again |
USA looked dead in O.T., but really, out of all the people to score the game winning goal, it had to be Crosby.... At least we snapped our 50 year losing streak to Canada this Olympic
|
Yeah they were definitely gassed in OT. It just sucks they couldn't get any more shots on Luongo, he looks REALLY shaky the whole game.
|
i thought there was a rule that if you get paid playing a certain sport you couldnt compete in the olympics?
|
You miss the basketball dream teams or the last few olympic baseball teams jay?

NHL players were officially allowed to compete in the Winter Olympics in 1998. I think the NHL was the last to get the IOC's stamp of approval.
Now, apparently, that may be recinded depending on how talks go with Gary Bettman and the IOC. A few things are on the table - will the players be allowed to continue to compete in the Olympics, does the NHL shut down during the two weeks (more an NHL decision, but obviously affected by the first, above), if players will be allowed, will there be a cap on the number of professional athletes per team, etc? It will likely take them the better part of two years to come to consensus on all the issues. From a marketing perspective, you couldn't have a better money maker than USA vs. Canada in the final Olympic event. The taxes made off beer alone would be phenominal. |
lol mike i dont really follow the olympics nor basketball/hockey...cant stand either sport really. the only thing on the olympics i can actually sit and watch is bobsledding...the rest is just meh....but yeah it doesnt seem right that professionals are allowed to compete, just seems wrong.

What is the difference between an NHL player and a downhill skiier that lives through endorsements and training noobs on the side? Both are professionals. |
you don't have to follow any of it, i find it culturally impossible that you have never heard of the "dream team" at our age what about the movie "space jam" lol

lol i never got into basketball and i was like 14 when that movie came out...never seen it. i think theres a difference than living through endorsements and earning your money by training n00bs over being a overpaid million dollar a year prima donna quasi celebrity athlete. if thats the case then what about all the past boxers that never had a chance to compete...thats kind of messed up. |
