Choosing a Head

Iv heard good things about the World Products 305 S/R Torquer heads. After looking at them on summit they have a bunch of one listed for the 305. I have a 1986 305 with Edelbrock Performer intake and perimeter bolt valve covers.

What is the part number for the correct head for my 305? They all seem the same except different Combustion Chamber Volumes.

Thanks

Also any other heads you might suggest? Im not a big fan of the vortec heads...

Why are you sticking with a 305 and putting heads on it? Why not grab a junkyard 350 and get some decent heads for that? I got some great dart heads with upgraded springs for a 350 for 400 bucks used from a member here, throw that on top of a junkyard 350 motor for say 300 bucks and at 700 you got some nice power.
Im sorry I just hate 305's with a passion.
And whats wrong with vortec heads they make great power for cheap and are readily available.

I did plan to go to a 383 in the future..i just thought id spruce up the 305 in the mean time.... although thats prolly a waste of money lol Maybe Ill just worry about saving up for a new exhaust and start saving for more parts for my 383 build lol

as for the vortec heads I have 2 family members who before they put there 383 and 350 in there cars cracked the vortec heads on the 305.

I beleive the LG4 in my 85 trans am has never been apart and it has 14014418 heads on it. If I remember right my 86 z28 had the 418 heads as well. Thats weird that you've had so many issues with vortec heads. I havnt heard alot of that. I have a set on the 350 thats goin in my berlinetta, and thought about getting a set and milling them .060 to maintain compression for the 305 in my t/a. If you wanna buy new heads, I have read good things on other forums about the s/r torquer 305 heads. Personally Id do the vortec thing, if they dont hold up, maybe your 383 will be done by that point!

If you wanna buy heads for the 305 either find a set of the 305 vortecs or find the corvette aluminum L98 heads. Both will give you nice gains for relatively little cash input.

Will these work on my 305 TPI? Where would be the best place to find them? For future reference.

Yes, they make for a good upgrade on 305 cars. They have a 58cc chamber so you won't have the compression loss that you would going with a larger head. The heads are casting number 113, and can be found on all TPI corvettes and ZZ4 350 HO crate motors.

I bought a set from Contemporary Corvette in Bristol, PA several years ago (they go by the name F Parts on ebay).
