When you mod your car, do you save the OE parts?
The changes I've made to my Firebird are all mechanical, no body kits or interior mods. The OE differential and gears, intake parts, exhaust system, PCM and drive shaft that were replaced with after market or other parts were saved so the car can be changed back to stock.
Do you save the OE parts or doesn't it matter to you? Just wondering. |
I think it depends on the parts and if you plan on keeping the car. For me, I kept my stock turn signals just in case one of the clear ones breaks. Same with stock headlights. I tossed the stock catback since I knew it wasn't going back on. I also tossed the stock air lid and baffle since I would never use it again. When I switched over to the ebony interior, I sold most of the stock gray parts since I would never go back. Use your judgement. If you plan on getting rid of the car, keep the parts just in case. You could always sell it down the road. If you plan on keeping the car, sell it. You don't need stuff taking up room that you'll never use again.

depends. do i have room, is the part reusable, do i want to be able to sell it or reinstall it someday? for instance I still have my 4 speed. I threw out the old 2nd gen seats as I had no room for them and if I ever want them I can hunt down decent frames and have them recovered.

im broke so i sell any parts i take off my car no matter how little money i get for them lol
I generally save all parts possible no matter how small. I think it is different when you have an older car though has original brings much more money than modded if I were to ever sell it.
depends, if I had a v6 car I would just chuck them, my SS I keep them. Or my 2nd gen, it had 70k orig miles I kept all the original parts I took off it ans they went along with the car when I sold it.
i try to sell them but noone wants them. so they lay around in the way
I have everything I've taken off of the car except for the swaybar endlinks. 3 broke, and I gave one to a friend.
i sell all my stock parts
save them all.
i save mine
it depends on what you want to do. but i saw on barrett-jackson that cars that had after market parts sold with original parts to return to original got alot more.
only thing i dont keep is the stock catbacks...
save it and try to sell it. helps the budget along :)
sell or chuck it if I know I will never put it back on.
I mean, how much of a demand are stock lca's and panhard bars? |
Its a 4th gen, be cheaper late on if you wanna go back to stock to buy another one and use that as the "stock" car.
Nothing of much value on the car. |

Hmmm, for some reason I have a stock 307 cam with a wiped lobe sitting in the garage next to a glazed over clutch. They take up space but for some reason never seem to get thrown out! It probably is worth keeping the stock parts because you never know when somebody might need them when they put their car back to stock to sell it quickly.
In the begining I did save them, but when I got to the point that the car would never be able to go back to stock I started selling off the spare parts.
