**** UPS
I finally found a red side skirt for my T/A. It was freshly painted, and I got it for 100 bucks. I got the package today, looked at the box and the box is wacked up at one end(obviously the FRAGILE HANDLE WITH CARE sticker was disregarded), and when I pulled the skirt out the the large tab that goes under the car is busted off. I call ups, and they tell me someone will be out in 5 day to come get it. Once this happens, I'll either be refunded my money and have to find another skirt or they'll refund my money and let me keep the skirt. If i get it back, god knows what condition it will be in then. If they don't show in 5 day, I get to keep it and they'll refund the money. I don't know if I should go through with it and attempt to find another red skirt, or let it go and pay to get the skirt bondoed

If they give you your money back, the piece has cost you NOTHING. Usually a good body shop can use epoxy and repair it or do it yourself. I would think that this piece is not too heavy and that this support piece would be an easy fix.

Ups sucks! Everything I get from them gets broken! They like to use packages as step stools because everyone I've gotten from them has foot prints all over it
|
I got a call from UPS, they said they are going to refund my money since they are aware it is their fault, and they will not be sending out anyone to inspect the piece.

Free Broken car part

UPS boned a 1970 Chevelle SS 3spd console I sent. I was very pissed but glad I got the extra insurance.

If you saw the way the 'higher ups' treated the warehouse guys and drivers you'd understand why things like that happened
|
i know this isnt the multimedia section but this is what happened

correct, but its the mere fact that i should not have to fix it, but it is also 1 of 2 of the main tabs to bolts it to the body.

ive had a ton of success with plastic weld. its real easy to work with and sandable when done. hell that bumper, in the pic above, had the front lip cracked right down the middle. got it for free from someone thought was trash and fixed it good as new. your at least lucky that part doesnt show ;) |
I have absolutely no intention to throw it in the trash. I do plan to fix it and use it. I took your comment as its not a big deal that it was broken in transit since the area is hidden, i apologize.

I understand your frustration about the part being broken during delivery, but I would not complain now because you got a part that is very easily fixable for nothing. I agree with NASTY, these are not hard at all to fix, and it is under the car, so wouldnt be noticeable
|
yeah plastic weld. theres a few brands out there...jb weld is a good one...as is the generic two part plastic epoxy. both will hold well. if you look closely the only thing you can see on the lip is a small seam in the front. like i said before though, yours will be hidden so it doesnt matter if you get a little bit sloppy with it...it always can be sanded down to look clean
|
Thats one ugly car.

That can be plastic welded, which is essentially a stick of abs plastic and a heat gun.... i can probably do it for you soon.
|
let me know when, I'll throw you a few bucks
|
Good to hear that UPS is going to reimburse you. I've done that plastic bonding stuff before. Seems to hold up good, but I've never used it on a high stress/support piece.
I just got a headlamp for a customers car and it had a "ShockWatch" thing on the side. It looks like one of those shoplifting tabs they have in stores but it's supposed to change color if the box was handled rough. |
