Tires and Rims - Will it fit?
I didn't notice any generic threads open about tire and rim sizing questions, so maybe this could be the thread where people can post related questions, and any tire/rim experts could lend some knowledge. Maybe not.
Either way, I'd like to post a question for any "tire experts" on the site: Will a 235/50/16 tire fit on a 16x7 rim without being detrimental to the tire's sidewall? I believe I plugged in the right numbers here, and from the looks of it, the tire would stick out 1.15" on either side of the rim. Could someone please correct me if I'm wrong with that math, or give me an opinion as to whether or not that will cause premature wear to the tire? Thanks so much in advance! |
In theory, yes. A quick search shows that most 225 / 50 / 16s call for a 6-8" rim, so a slightly wider and taller 235 / 60 / 16 should fit on a 16x7 wheel with no issues.
However, both Tire Rack and Discount Tire Direct carry no tires at all in that size, so if you are thinking about buying something in that size, you are likely gonna be out of luck or have an extremely limited choice of tires. - Justin |
Thanks Justin, very helpful. My father is the one that had the question. He has both the tires and the rims ready, but wanted to verify that it wouldn't cause too much (if any) of an issue.
Many thanks again! |
Double check that tire size. I sense it is incorrect.

I run 245/50/16's on 6.5" rims. No issues.

Should be good to go.
