Steering ratios

Just wonderring after driving my 02 WS6 and my 95 Firehawk the Firehawk has a little looser steering then the WS6. Is there a different Steering ratio? If so would I just need a Rack and Pinion out of a LS1 to upgrade the 95 to the Steering my WS6 has?

i'm sure you have seen the infamous rag joint on the lt1 steering coupler shaft. that tends to have play in it. ls1's incorporate it into the rack itself, which tends to give them that tighter feel. could just be the age/wear differences in the racks respectively.

IIRC, transmaro93 got an ls1 rack for his 97 bird. i believe that is what they sell for replacements now.

Looking up a 1997 Camaro and a 1998-99 Camaro, they seem to use the same rack, with 98+ having an optional performance rack in my computer. After 99 they only came with the performance rack ( NAPA pt# 22150 for the 98-99, and pt#22185 for the performance/98+ steering rack) So you should be able to use a newer rack in the car.

Cool thanks for the replies!! My 02 Has 92,000 miles on it and my 95 has 70,000 miles on it. The 02 just feels better and tighter during corners and just driving then the 95.

FYI, that stupid rag joint we have can make our steering sloppy, look up the elimintor they make, its sluminum, the only down side is it's 37 bucks.
