Which CAI

Between the Moroso, K&N, and The SLP dual filter for the LT1?

I decided on ebay headers(ill have a nice long right up during the install) and i want to do a CAI to open the in since ill have the out wide open. Ill aslo be getting a tune from JS Perfomance. Any input would be great.

Anti_Rice_Guy 07-13-2010 07:53 AM

I don't think there's a whole lot of difference. My K&N is pretty quiet and flows enough air. Every person with the SLP I've seen has the paint coming off or a little bit of surface rust. Can't say I've seen a Moroso yet.

LTb1ow 07-13-2010 08:01 AM

K&N here, can't complain much.

RamAir95TA 07-13-2010 11:44 AM

My personal favorite is the SLP dual/dual. While it's the most expensive, it looks the best. :) Every CAI, though, performs the same, so get whatever's cheap!

smoke_em94 07-13-2010 12:39 PM

i would go with the moroso had it on my 93

Green_Phoenix_LT1 07-13-2010 12:40 PM

Well i have a chance to pick up an SLP dual setup for 98 shipped.

deadtrend1 07-13-2010 12:51 PM

only thing i noticed with the SLP when I had it is that it got hot.

Are you running the 1LE elbow?

Green_Phoenix_LT1 07-13-2010 12:54 PM

i will be putting a smooth elbow on it yes. right now its still the stock with the stupid resonator.

MonmouthCtyAntz 07-13-2010 01:21 PM

Think the lingenfelter (same as moroso & K&N) is only $159...remember years ago when the Lt1 was the thing guys use to complain about heatsoak w/ the SLP one.

Slow-V6 07-13-2010 02:11 PM

If you are doing a ram air hood then I would just hold off for a Ram air box!

Green_Phoenix_LT1 07-13-2010 02:22 PM

I would hold of on a ram air box but its gonna be quite a while before i can afford a a hood and a ram air box. right now the 98 dollar SLP kit is looking pretty good but Im starting to get concerned with the heat issues people are talking about.

with the power you're stock LT1 is making, the little bit of heat that builds on the metal intake would be the least of your worries

Anti_Rice_Guy 07-13-2010 02:38 PM

Jclt12003 hasn't had any heat soak issues with his car (GM847/stage 2 ported heads, SLP intake), granted he doesn't drive it long distances.

Lol. Im hoping to get over 300rwhp with the headers, cai, and tune. If the heat build up isnt a big deal with a bolt on only lt1 then i dont see a reason to not go with SLP for less than 45% of new.

I don't think 300-305 rwhp is THAT far off for a bolton + tune LTfun 6spd.

Also depends on the dyno is setup. Hell, the vert dyno'd 297rwhp/327 rwtq three pulls in a row 2 years ago as it sits right now on a Mustang dyno. Do I think I really make that? No, but the dyno sheet says it

Green_Phoenix_LT1 07-13-2010 03:36 PM

Well the tune is gonna be however Josh over at JSPerfomance does it. I won't really know the true dyno numbers for a while. Where i hot to get an improvement is at the track. Hopefuly mid 13s or better and a better trap than my previous runs. (14.3 @ 99 was best so far) on 245/55/r16 kuhmo street tires.

Got the lingenfelter CAI myself, def a power gain over stock and you can't beat the price.

MonmouthCtyAntz 07-13-2010 05:12 PM

Yea I owned a few LT1's back in the 90's and the dynos really vary...6spds general start in the 250's and I have seen some as high in the mid 270's stock (usually SS/Firehawk/WS6 cars). Unlike the LS motor the Ram Air models actually seemed to put out more power. 300 is possible I just dont remember seeing it too often..

sweetbmxrider 07-13-2010 05:48 PM

250's with a 6 speed, you have got to be joking. i mean i know you have been there done that but that is just silly.

all bolt on intakes are the same. now if you went with a lid setup, you'd definitely pick up some power especially after the 1/8th

greenformula92 07-13-2010 08:19 PM

i got the K&N....im pretty happy with it

ib4200 07-13-2010 09:19 PM

i got teh K&N

Slow-V6 07-13-2010 09:58 PM

His car is trapping 99 mph in the 1/4 so its probably making between 240-250 at the wheels. Add headers and a CAI with a tune I would say 275-285 rwhp max.

Its better to go into Dynos thinking of a low number and not a high number. This way you wont get disapointed.

JerzLT1 07-13-2010 10:09 PM

i have a k&n in my shed that im not using, $100 and ill drop it off to you
