Starter wire?

One night driving my car just dies... so i pop the hood and look around and see a split wire from the starter. I looked like it was either already cut and was barely held on or it had melted... so i manage to stick one hand down there against the hot ass manifolds... and was able to twist the crappy wire ends together and wrap some electrical tape around it...

Question is what is that wire called? I think it was red. Starter wire? Positive wire?
Also where could I find one? General auto parts store?
And how hard would it to be to replace? What all is involved?

Thanks

So I take it no one knows?

A picture would go a long way in helping to figure out which wire you are talking about?

iirc, third gens have some fusible links running from the starter. for the car to die and twisting the wire together to repair it, i doubt its the feed wire for the starter. fusible links can be purchased at napa and the like. make sure if it is, you replace it with the same size. otherwise, fire.

Its not rubbing. There is about a 1/2 inch clearance and if it did happen to touch it would be touching the starter itself not the wires.

purple is the starter wire

other red or orange are power feed wires for either the fuse box or other major accessories.

and yes, those should all have fusible links. whatever you spliced together, undo, and correctly wire in a fusible link section which you can get at most auto parts stores. im not sure on which size youll need though.
