Heads and cam install

Well I am getting ready to send my car in to get the H/C installed. Just wonderring if there are any other items I need.

I have so far,

Cam, complete Heads,Pushrods,Caddy Lifters,LS2 timing chain,36lb injectors,valve cover gaskets,crank bolt,

Parts I am getting
MLS Head gaskets PN 12498544. LS1tech says they are the best for the price. 28.00 for the set. Cant beat that.

Felpro
timing cover set, intake cover set, head bolt set x2

sealed cam bearing set

Melling oil pump 115.00 at advance auto or lingenfelter oil pump 99.00

Also looking into COMP CAMS LS TRUNION UPGRADE KIT. My Rockers have 93,000 miles on them and I really dont want to shell out 400.00 for a set of rockers.

Any other suggestions I would greatly appreciate.

Those are 1.75 ratio...just a heads up for re-checking your cam lift and more importantly, valve springs to handle it.

My cam is a 228-232 600 600 111 ls. I have patriot gold Valvesprings on the 243 heads. The guy has not gotten back to me to see if he still has them so I will see. If he doesnt get back to me by tomorrow I am going to order the other kit for the stock rockers.

Thats pretty much the exact setup im running...228/232 .614/.600 111 LSA, on ported, milled 243's. I run the PRC gold springs, and stock rockers. No problems so far, shifting at just over 6500 rpm.

i have the trunion rebuild by harland sharp. i forget how much it was but i sent them my brand new rockers at the time.
i think it was 200-something. Def worth the upgrade. i got tired of all the high rpm loss of the needle bearings.

Since i bought a brand new LS6 crate engine, i just unbolted the rockers and sent them off. I made sure they convert my exact mint brand new rockers not just give exchange me a set. All went perfect.

Thats cool. Good to know that the stockers will hold up. Mine have 93,000 miles on them so I think I will do that rebuild on them at least. My 243's will be milled with a valve job but not ported. The guy who I got my cam from made 428rwhp with stock 241 heads. I was just going to get the valve springs for my 241's but found these Z06 heads with the springs on them that I needed for 450.00

Seems like alot of people do this on Tech. Thanks for the input and the pictures.

Just looking at your list, I would look into a few more things. whatever shop you take it to could probably provide most of these things though...

oil filter
new spark plugs
oil pump o-ring
Crank pulley bolt
ls2 timing chain
Header gaskets if not reusable
chromoly pushrods after you measure

If you havent upgraded them already, I would replace the stock lifters with at least a set of ls7 lifters.

This.

I had to do lifters after I did my cam cause they were bleeding down.

You still rocking stock Fuel injectors?

NJ Torque 09-08-2010 12:04 AM

My cam only car needed injectors... maxed them out @5400 RPM...

I have svo 30# injectors (red tops), which are 36.5 lb/hr at ls1 fuel pressure. Im still on the stock fuel rails, but I have a walbro 255 and hot wire kit. If I were to do it again, I would have gotten the 42 lb/hr injectors (green tops). They are about the same price and leave room to grow...

You could get the car tuned on stock injectors, but its not a great idea to constantly go WOT on them, which would put them around 120% duty cycle. Also, you would have to get a re-tune if you changed the injector size down the road.

Grifter 09-10-2010 08:16 PM

Definitely get the injectors now.

Got a set of brand new fast 36lbers off Tech yesterday for 220 shipped. Couldnt pass up on that one.
