ls1 and nitrous... explain to me...

I know stock ls1s do pretty well on a little bit of nitrous, but how much is too much?

Mainly still all theoretical... but take a stock 2000 ls1 with 241 heads and add nitrous... how big of a total shot can I get out of it?
Now what if I use special rings and arp rod bolts/head bolts?
Then how much of a shot if I do new pistons?
New rods?

Figure this based on a 2 stage system, plate and direct port. Will have a dedicated fuel system with race fuel.

And I'm not too concerned about breaking ****, stuff can be fixed.

How much can you use? Well until it blows... Lol.

But 125-150 seems to be the standard on a stock motor with a good tuneup.

Once you get into 200+ terriotory, youve gotta be very careful on A/F's and reading your plugs. Definitly at that point, would suggest pistons and rods.

not to hijack but what are some good brand pistons/rods? i am spraying aswell once i build my motor a little bit

its all about distribution, timing, and plugs.

I ran a 200 shot (NX wet kit) on my 00SS for 2yrs. straight. every weekend and occasonaly during the week @ nite if we set up a race.
Its all in the timing & tune. make sure you got a good fuel pump and the usual safetys.

Oh yeah..... forgot to mention. this was a stock bottom end LS1 w/ heads/cam/intake.
probably ran 300 bottles through it.

And my brother been running his for over 3yrs on stock motor and he is a bottle junkie!!! motor still together, no problems.(runs 150 shot wet kit also)

I have been told that the stock crank is good for around 650hp.. If you get forged rods and pistons then your motor should be able to handle 600hp or more without worries. The stock 2000 bottom end is good to around 500hp. Many have ran more then 500hp out of there bottom end and have had no issues with it at all. When it comes to nitrous its all about the tune.

As far as breaking **** its an aluminum block. I broke a piston in my 3.8 V6 on nitrous and it damaged the hell out of the Cylinder wall so much that the block was scrap. Dont know what would have happened if it was an Aluminum motor.

Yeah cut the sleeve out and resleeve it.

S.J.SLEEPER 11-26-2010 08:05 AM

Oh yeah, I should have posted what we did as for timing,
100 shot pulled 4 degrees
150 shot pulled 6 degrees
200 shot pulled 8 degrees

when running the 200 shot I always threw in 5 gallons of 116 race fuel too. just to let ya know.
( i worked my way up from 100shot to 200 shot in like a month, than just kept it @ 200shot for like EVER!!)

my car stock motor 99 ls1 853 heads two stages stock fuel pump with ls6 injectors has 138 nitrous passes so yeah as long as the timings right and a.f is good send it im also running a tr6 plug get

I snapped a rod in mine. Two holes in the block, piston in many pieces. Not a pretty sight when this happens. I had more in Mobil 1 oil on the ground then I got for the block at a scrap yard.
