Transmission problems

I know I havn't been the most active member on the site, but if I can atleast get some ideas of where to start before I hand over my wallet to some stranger with a wrench, I would be very appreciative.

My car is a 97 T/A WS6.
The transmission is the original 4L60-E. (Atleast to my knowledge)
My car refuses to shift into 3rd and 4th, but 1st, 2nd, and Reverse are still just as strong as ever.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Sounds like you lost the 3-4 clutch pack.

would solenoids failing do that?

Bad shift solenoid would lose 1st and 4th.

Its best to just go to a trans shop after checking the fluid. There are many different things that could cause your specific issues. Anything from a stuck valve, to a bad seal, to a blocked oil passage, to the 2-4 band.

Yes.

2-3 shift solenoid can cause this problem

also try this:
unplug large round 20 pin connector going into trans,
try driving manually shifting through gears,
If it manually shifts into 3rd & 4th, then there is no mechanical problem, it is a electrical (pcm, solenoid, wiring harness) problem.

Well you posted your question yesterday morning, You should have waited for someone to give you "real" technical advice, not wild guesses before pulling it apart.

if you take trans out & need someone to look @ it pm me.

Sorry 5.s1ow..... saw last post and thought you were the O.P.

Sorry it took so long for me to log back on. Being the primary ambulance in a city is kinda busy.

I checked the fluid and it looked almost brand new.

Where can I find the big 20-pin on the trans. Keep in mind all I have for lifting purposes is a 3 ton jack and 2 ramps..... maybe a cinder block or two if i look hard enough. lol

I have the exact same problem. Fluid is fine. I even tried a pt of trans medic.

Rear right side of trans, plug faces down towards the pan from up top.
