New K-member

Finally got around to installing my new spohn k-member. I have it mocked up in the pictures to make sure it fit before I moved everything over. I can't believe how much room it clears up. Much easier to work around it now. I don't know why I didn't do when I installed the engine. I also had to replace my oil pan becuase of a accident with a floor jack.

Nice man, looks great. It is pretty awesome how much room you gain with tubular stuff.

wretched73 04-28-2011 09:35 PM

So how was the fit? Did a-arms go back smoothly? Sway bar mount up fine?

HardcoreZ28 04-28-2011 09:36 PM

Looks good...I love my Spohn unit as well. Makes slipping headers in soooo much easier

I believe I had a small bit of trouble getting my stock A-arms back in but they went....and the sway bar was cake.

looks good, Thats one thing I would like on my car but it comes with a 10% weight penalty thanks scca

Thats weak, but supposedly the stock k member is better for autox because of its increased rigidity..... IDK though, i wanna autox and i bought one anyway :p

It fits great. I didnt get the a arms back on yet but I am using spohn a arms as well. I didnt have to remove the sway bar so it fits fine.

Looks awesome! How difficult was the install without a lift?

Fast92RS 04-29-2011 09:44 AM

not hard at all. I got a set of high jack stands and a high lift jack that makes it eaiser.

edpontiac91 04-29-2011 11:04 AM

Looks really good and the fact the you did this on your back was amazing.

Fast92RS 04-29-2011 04:51 PM

lol yeah thanks. I'm used to it. When I worked at the dealer I was spoiled using the lifts and I never wanted to get on a creeper.

Got the front suspension all back together. It went all together pretty easy. It was a little bit of a paint to get the motor mounts lined up and a big pain to get the springs in, but then I figured out I had to use my spring compressor then it went together easier. I still need to bleed the brakes and then road test..........

HardcoreZ28 05-16-2011 06:49 PM

Really not that tough to do on your back...that's how I did mine as well. I remember my motor mounts being super difficult to line back up after as well. I supported the weight of the engine with a cherry picker while I took the stock unit out.

I also went with solid motor mounts. I took it for a test drive today and its really nice. i really can't tell they are solid mounts. I do have to go for a front end alignment. I am going to try thrust performace in south amboy for one.

They did my alignment recently. I am going to continue going there for tires and alignment. They were very knowledgeable and found multiple problems with my car that they took the time to show me and explain what it all meant. Kinda expensive, but definitely worth it. They made my car drive better than it has in years.

Got a appointment for tuesday at thrust performance for the alignment.

Yea Mike and the guys there are great. He has found and fixed so many little things for me that others would have just overlooked. I'll never go anywhere else.

Fast92RS 05-24-2011 12:25 PM

Got my alignment done today at thrust. They are pretty good but yes a little on the pricey side. The car drove great on the way home.

Glad to hear you're happy with the handling. Have you ever had the car dyno'd with your engine combo? And who did your tuning? My car still needs to be tuned in the worst way to fix a super rich condition.

coolmanvette75 05-24-2011 07:40 PM

Glad Mike and the guys did a good job on the alignment...

I have not had it on a dyno yet. I do want to get it to JS to have him dyno it. So far I have done all the tuning. I started with a tune from someone on TGO that had a similar set up. I have tweaked it but it still needs work and I still have to get my wide band o2 installed so I can dial it in.

I gotta say I thought it would be worse with the solid engine mounts as far as vibration. But its actually better. My exhaust is real close to the floor and the solids mounts stopped a lot of the engine movement the caused the exhaust to hit the floor.

HardcoreZ28 05-25-2011 07:16 AM

Yeah I've been wanting to get the car to Josh for my tuning but finding the time to take it there and getting a ride back after I leave it is tough.

Yeah same here I have to make time to take it out there. I bought a car trailer two years ago so I could tow the car around. JS is about an hour drive for me so I'm hoping I can take it there soon.
