ls1 arp rod bolt's
Hello guy's I have a 98 ls1 motor and have heard that the rod bolt's on this year are horrible and want to replace them with a set of ARP's. What is the best site...price for a set of them i would very much so appreciate an input. Also what bearing should i use the motor is sitting on a engine stand so this is the best time to do the work i plan on spraying the motor with about a 100 shot and figure mine as well put a fresh set of bearing in the bottom end.
Thanks,Steve |
a 100 shot you dont need rod bolts or anything...

Well the motor is used said to only have 50k on it but who knows. The 100 is just to start might go to a 150 when used to it Better safe then sorry you know. And since the motor is sitting on an engine stand with the oil pan off thought it would be a good idea to upgrade.

my 98 trans am blew up with only 57k miles on it. womp womp I know of somebody else's 98 ta who blew up with similar mileage as well. Not saying All will meet the same demise but you're better safe than sorry when it comes to spending 100-200 bucks preventing it rather than spending a grand to replace the longblock after it goes bye bye lol |
Lol well put my friend! I'll probly put some Arp head studs in the car when I find a set of 243 heads for it also. But deff the rod bolts and bearings. Just don't know what brand of bearing to use any pointers?

The ARP rod bolts are different weight than the stockers and may throw off your balance. Katech rod bolts are factory weight upgrades. Katech bolts are twice as expensive though...
|
A couple of my buddys use the arps with no problems.

GM rod bolts in the 2001+ part# are a good upgrade as well, Katech bolts can be hard to get and co$t quite a bit.

Oh boy got the motor now it's time for some parts:) Deff want to get some 243 head's arp rod bolt's ls6 or a fast intake etc.

If you guys change rod bolts, don't you have to have the rod resized?

Nah, they just turn out. 11mm iirc

I swapped out the rod bolts to ARP ones in my '03 LS6 as soon as i pulled it out of the GM crate, very easy and worth the security. never had a balance issue.
When i really dig into my current LS6, ill be doing the same. |
Yea deff worth the money ARP is some good stuff.
