help

whats up. while driving my 95 firebird the other day down the highway my tachometer was at about 4000 & i was going about 70 and it shot back down to 1 and my car wouldnt pick up speed and faster and the temp gauge started to go up. i turned my car off for a couple hours and drove it threw town and all is normal. yet everytime i go on the highway it seems to happen again.. anyone help?

Have you looked at the coolant?

The_Bishop 08-11-2011 06:06 PM

If auto, check the trans fluid.

greenformula92 08-13-2011 06:20 AM

i would definitely check the trans fluid, its sounds like something is whacky with the trans, how many miles are on the car? has this happened before?

bigz28man 08-14-2011 12:57 AM

Stallion, very very soon matter of fact in about 5 weeks im pulling my lt1 out of my 97 Z and possibly putting it up for sale (thats a big possibly...i'm really leaning on doing 383 kit to it, with some afr heads and lt4 hot cam) but if you are thinking of going to a v8 keep me in mind and i'll let you know what i'm doing with it.

Italian Stallion 08-14-2011 02:29 PM

lt1 8u this hasnt happened before, and theres roughly 102, xxx.

Italian Stallion 08-14-2011 02:33 PM

and i know, my cars only a v6 thats why im trying to save up for a ws6 or a firehawk.
but i'm deffinitaly interested in the lt1 swap. so bigz28man let me know what is going on. ive talked to a couple of mechanics and they said it was cost a **** load because i wouldnt be able to it all myself. but deff keep in touch and let me know whats going on. thanks guys.

bigz28man 08-14-2011 09:05 PM

Stallion, I will definitely keep you posted....between this new motor going in the car, the 12 bolt rear that still needs to be purchased, repainting the entire car, and a Z06 big brake kit.... my 20K budget is depleting quickly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So selling that motor may be the Vortec supercharger that is out of my budget for now.

I spoke to you on the phone last week. Contact NJBadSS, his brother is selling a 1997 Trans Am/6 speed.

keep saving your money so you can at least buy an LS1 car. they are getting cheaper by the day. until then enjoy the one you have.

TheV6Guy 08-14-2011 11:23 PM

i agree with bonzo on this one. just give it time and save your money and buy a nice ls1. even a basic ls1 trans am would do the job. trust me. you'll find one. lol

NjbadSS 08-14-2011 11:36 PM

Whats your price range? now a.days ls1 cars are becoming very affordable. I picked a beautiful 98 z28 up with 120k leather interior exhaust and.all for 1800. i recently sold a 99 red ws6 for 4500. is your budget like 2000? if not there are ls1 cars all over in the 4000 range. As stated above my brother has a 97 6 speed lt1 has entire new drive train but needs opti spark, 3000 takes it.

Italian Stallion 08-16-2011 05:00 AM

price range is about 5 grand and under.. not looking for a camaro tho, unless it is done up nice. looking more for a firebird or ta. i really like the ws6, but those are too far outta the price range.

NjbadSS 08-16-2011 09:17 AM

Again...i just sold a beautiful 99 ws6 for 4500. they are out there if you look in the 5000 price range.

Craiglist... I just did a quick search and there's a 99 TA in south jersey for 5500 obo with headers, exhaust, intake, etc.

Just gotta keep a look out and something will come along.

Italian Stallion 08-16-2011 02:07 PM
