I hate when a dream car slips away
I just found a Cosworth Vega in Arizona for 600 o.b.o, desert rust, and complete.....but I couldn't afford that shipping, nor to pick it up, and the persons moving so the price is to sell. I would sell a few things just to get it, but I know it's going to slip away....again. I also had a 1978 25th ann. Corvette slip away when I was 18. I opted for my 79 Camaro, while in secret, my parent's were in talks to buy me that vette, although it needed some restoration, but the price was killer. turns out they waited too long and it was stolen before they could go pick it up.....
I'm sure you guys lusted over a dream car/project car at one point and time or another. What kind of car(s) was it, and what was the point where you knew it wasen't to be yours? |
1986 mitsubishi starion, was parked behind my dad's shop for yearssss. I was always hoping to have enough spare cash to buy it, but last time I drove past it was gone.

like 2 years ago there was a 64 lemans in the autoshopper. it was a 2dr 6cyl. perfect resto-mod candidate. at the time i was building my 97 bird so i didnt have the cash. guy was asking 4k for a complete running car. looked to be in great shape. even at 4k that car was priced to sell. 64 lemans/gto is my dream car. shoulda just bit the bullet and bought it and put it in storage till i was ready.... ahh well

When I was 15 I found a 78 trans am black on black ttops and a 4 speed on ebay in merchantville. Solid body with faded paint. It sold for 1300. The owner offered to sell it away from ebay to me and my dad said no because he didn't wanna get it towed and couldn't drive a stick. I still regret not being able to get it.

My dream car was a Trans Am!! After watching Knight Rider thats what I wanted. After owning a T/A I really wanted a Firehawk and a C5 Vette..

I don't know if it was my dream car, but in high school (87-91) there was a 66 2-door post Chevy II sitting on a used car lot at the corner of South Clinton and Cedar Ave. It was gold, 6cyl 3spd on the column, no rust, shock towers were good, 4 lug wheels, drum brakes all around. Car was begging for a V8 with a 4 gear. Me and my dad went and looked at it and we hesitated. Later we went back and it was gone. A junior in my high school bought it and drove it for awhile, then it kinda disappear. That's the car that got away. It was super clean, but very grandma-ish.
A couple months later though we found a 1968 RS Camaro, red with black int and black vinyl top. 327 (origininal shortblock) with TH350 (swapped in), it was a 20 footer/20mph car. Looking back, the Nova was soo much the better car, but the Camaro was the looker. I ended up selling the Camaro back to the guy I bought it from 5 years later for $1500 more than I paid, so it kinda worked out in the end. The car he got back was far better than when he bought it. I figure at best I broke even. |
I own one of my dream cars....the other one the guy will not sell. 71 chevelle SS 454 4speed
|
Still holding out for my 1996 Impala SS. At this point, I'll just take a Caprice to work up to make into a quasi-replica.

If I can't get a Cosworth whole, I at least want an engine. I dream of putting one of those bad boys in a 88 Fiero GT......
Don't judge me people. |
I have a new dream car just about every week...

Only vehicle Ive had my eyes set on that I missed do to lack of money was an FJ70 decked out that was imported from canada. It was on ebay for like $12,000 and I was 18 at the time, no way that was happening. Hell that aint happening now lol.
I purposely dont look on CL etc when I dont have money or know something will be out of reach anyway. |
1978 Bandit TA. If I had money, they could be found a lot of places. So for now I just lurk on places like transamcountry.com and watch the classifieds like a kid peering through the window of a candy store.
The second car I wanted I had for a while then sold - an 87-90 TA. Grew up watching the third gens as a more stylish alternative to the fox body Mustangs of the era. Every 10th kid in my high school had a GT or LX. Then someone bought an 89 (I think) and I was blown away. Again, these can be found anywhere and I just dont have the money. |
