Intake question? Please help

Hey, a guy i know is selling a slp dual intake from a 96 t/a for $200, and i have a 95 Firebird. I was wondering if anyone knew if this would fit or if the throttle body might be a different size or something? and also if that price is fair? Thanks for your help, Mike.

When you post, you need to include your engine size as well. I remember that you have the 3.4L v6 so no, it will not be a direct fit. It can be made to work though. $200 is a little high to me but is about right. I sold mine for around $120.

what would i have to mod on it to make work?

Honestly just hop on ebay and browse for intakes for your motor. The slp intake just carries a name thus fetches more money. A cheap one on ebay will suit you fine and make more noises than stock.

To save the hassle of doing this everytime, you should edit your signature

Go to User CP --> Edit Signature and just enter some basic info about your car. It will help others when you ask questions like this.

but would an ebay intake give me any performance gains? this would be the one im looking at.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/93-95...item43a9b971d0

Yes, you will see some performance gain.

Italian Stallion 09-22-2011 05:02 PM

the same as those of the slp intake?

getting concrete numbers on intakes is hard, because the gains they produce can be less than the amount of power gained or lost by temperature of the car, temperature outside, humidity, and not to mention dyno to dyno

so basically (and this is my opinion) the difference in gain that you could (but probably won't) see is greatly outweighed by the difference in price. an intake is basically a filter on stick, they can design it in whatever crazy way they want and throw out all the marketing they can but in the end the ebay one is going to be pretty darn close in performance.

thanks creeper, that put it in a little more perspective for me.

one thing i have noticed with an intake is an increase in fuel economy it almost every car i have put one on....except for my subaru cause well now i can hear the turbo and i can't keep my foot out of it lol

3.4right? Back in the day i just took a spectra 90degree elbow and put on a k&n air filter.
but honestly don't waste your money on this engine, trust me i know and wasted a ton. In your other posts you mention you are saving for a ws6 so do that. skip the headers, intake, and anything else you might want - keep it clean and looking nice and save for something with real balls. The below video was my old 3.4 with headers, high flow cat, comps cam 260H and an open cutout. sounded ehh at idle and **** with the pedal on the floor. trust me just save your money.

u weren't kidding about the sound at WOT lol....at idle it sounded pretty good though.

Italian Stallion 09-28-2011 12:40 PM

yeah i totally understand what your talking about not putting any money into the car but its the only one i have now so i wanna do atleast some better things to it.

Tru2Chevy 09-28-2011 05:01 PM

A cheap ebay cold air intake is fine, you'll gain a little power, maybe gain a little mileage, and you can resell it when you are ready to sell the car.

Other than that, if you are saving for a WS6, then the only mods I would do would be suspension mods that will carry over to the new car. Rear LCAs, tq. arm, and adjustable panhard bar if you plan on lowering.
