Stroker Build Questions

I'm about to rebuild my motor over the winter and I was originally planning a 355; reusing the stock crank. However I am throwing around the idea of a stroked motor.

I am not new to building motors but I am new to anything other than stock stroke. I'm looking into a 3.75" stroke crank to build a 383.

My questions are:
- Between 5.7" & 6" rods, which one is "better"?
- Will the 6" rod have any clearance issues?
- Do I have to be concerned with any clearances with the larger stroke (besides for the initial machine work to get the journals clearanced)?
- Do I need to use a different oil pan?

http://www.hotrod.com/howto/69883_stroke_any_engine/ good article on Strokers.

Not sure how much different LT1 blocks are from the old stuff. When I built my engine we went with 5.7" rods (thats what came with the eagle kit). The machine shop had to grind block material from below each cylinder for the rods to clear, we also ran into an issue with Camshaft/Rod interference. The rods that came with the 383 Stroker kit would not clear the camshaft lobes. We ended up getting a different set of rods.

I did not have any issues running a stock oil pan on my engine. But it was also an older 350 block, not sure if it's the same with an LT1.

1) neither rod is really "better." a 6" rod will allow for a lighter piston which is a plus. The piston's oil ring will typically need a spacer because the wrist pin is up so high - some claim this can cause problems in a street motor but I don't think anyone has ever proven it.

2) it'll have the exact same clearance assuming all other things are the same.

3) Your block may require clearancing and depending several things you may need a small base-circle cam.

4) depends on several things...
