Collector Insurance??

Hey those of you with Firebirds, seeing as pontiac took a dump how many of you guys use collector insurance for your birds??? I'm looking into it but don't know who to go to lol.

WildBillyT 12-06-2011 05:56 PM

Hagerty and Grundy are the two big ones.

I have Hagerty for my Nova. I'd have it on the T/A but I dd it and it's stored outside.

I just checked out Condon and Skelly before I posted this, the website says they don't have yearly mileage restrictions, is that for real??? The only restriction I saw said I needed it stored in a garage.

you will likely need proof of owning an insured daily driver.

fbirdfreak 12-07-2011 12:25 PM

Yeah that's what their website says you need another daily driver but they don't limit your yearly miles, and they do offer firebird insurance since pontiac went under my 2000 trans am is considered "a collector car" according to them, I just talked to them today about it and they told me they have no yearly restrictions, they want it parked off the street (preferably in a garage but they don't mind if I have it in my driveway) and I have to have the front/side photos of it as well as proof of ownership and the insurance on my daily driver.

Oh and I'm 19 and they allow me on the policies so apparently age is no factor either.

BonzoHansen 12-07-2011 12:31 PM

no garage and under 25? interesting info

fbirdfreak 12-07-2011 07:48 PM

Yeah that's what the associate just told me on the phone, do you guys with hagerty or Grundy know if they come out to make sure you're keeping it in a garage or do odometer checks?

Not to my knowledge, no.

BonzoHansen 12-07-2011 08:08 PM

not that I know of. but I suspect if my car is stolen from my driveway overnight i won't get paid.

is that an agreed value policy?

Yes in my policy they asked me what my car value was worth, so I told them 10k, then they approved the number (idk how they checked it, through insurance magic I suppose) And this is straight off their website:

Agreed Value Coverage
• We ensure that you will receive the total amount your vehicle is insured for in the event of a total loss.

And here is my policy information:

Type: Original
Year: 2000
Make: Pont
Model: firebird
Condition:
Comp Ded: $250
Coll Ded: $250
Value: $10,000
Premium: $140

There you go guys! Sorry it took me so long to answer I haven't been online lol.

When you get your declarations page make sure it does not say "cash value" anywhere.

i got a quote for my 97 WS6 (in storage in arizona) from my allstate agent (they work directly with hagarty) a while ago. for an AGREED VALUE of $30,000 with absolute total bumper to bumper coverage was around $1350/yr. dont remember if there was mileage restriction, but it must be garaged. I wanted to get a quote for $50,000 agreed, but without a job the point is moot.

for my 85 LeSabre it was $300/yr for AV/$5000. couldnt get it because no garage.
the only drawback is that they require the total payment up front.

if anyone wants agent's phone (located in flemington), let me know.

BonzoHansen 12-12-2011 08:37 PM

$1350? Damn. I pay hagerty $325 or so for $20,000 on the Z, and they consider it 'modified' which bumped it up a class. sounds to me like allstate is adding their %% and the agent's commission % as well. I can't imagine AZ insurance is that much more expensive than NJ.

.

That seems a little high to me as well... before i sold my 57 chevy 30k was costing us 155 a year for restoration insurance... my ta with 24500 of coverage is $685 a year.

when did that happen?

Rich189 12-15-2011 08:54 AM

Few months ago scott... we were never getting around to working on it and my dads friend offered to buy it so we sold it and split the cash

JL8Jeff 12-18-2011 10:04 AM

My 70 Camaro L78 car was insured for $40K and cost around $350 to $400 a year I think. It had a mileage limitation of 3000 but it was never an issue. It's hard to compare modern "collector" cars and restrictions to antique "collector" cars so it would be interesting to see what the insurance companies say regarding miles, storage, what is/isn't covered.

The BIG Show 12-22-2011 06:42 PM

hmmmmm.....sounds like I have some research to do.
