Nifty goings on
Sooo, a few weeks back 1320B4U shot me a link for a set of ZR-1 knock off rims, which i dutily drove a few hours to go pick up. I just got one completely sanded down, and found these markings on all 4 wheels:
"JWL" logo on each lip Back spokes: "UW JPN" 17.2x9.5x56 10214046 After some good research.....it would appear the aren't knock offs at all  Thanks again 1320B4U! Unless someone kicks me down from my current pedestal, seems to have turned out to be a good night after all... 8-) |
japanese light weight wheels, i'd say score
|
Very light once I got the tires off...I'm thinking score as well :)

"Factory" GM GS/ZR1 wheels in 4th gen specs came in 9.5" widths?
|
Bill, I don't think they are factory ZR-1s, but OEM ZR-1 style.
(in other words, not necessarily removed from a ZR-1 corvette, but an OEM replacement, or CE, for lack of better explanation) |
IIRC the ZR1 style wheels that came on 96-00? Camaro SS's were 17x9.5 all around, the C4 ZR1/Grand Sport's had the same style wheel but in larger sizes (width)
|
That sounds right maroman, Pretty sure the earlier Coupe GS vettes had 9.5 rear and 8.5front, and later on 11 rear 9.5 front. I also think you are correct on the SS theory. The thing i'm pretty convinced about is that mine wouldn't have all the markings they do if they were reps :)

They started in 96 but wiki says they are 17x9. I dono

Pictures on car please
|
I remember seeing the JWL on the ZR1 wheels that were on my old 96 SS. I think the car had 3 JWL wheels and one repro wheel probably due to an accident. I sold 2 of the wheels and bought some 17x11 AFS wheels. I remember that you could definitely feel the weight difference but that was a few years ago and I don't remember which was heavier, the JWL or the repro.

What you have are correct GM Corvette wheels and not knockoffs, The dead give away is the offset is 56mm and the correct JWL tag. All Camaro SS ZR 1 wheels were 17x9 with 50mm offsets. The 96 GS, 96 Collector Edition, and the ZR 1 wheels were all available in the 17 x9.5 size with 56mm offsets. They were also available in 17x8.5 for the fronts of Collector Editions and GS (Verts only), as well as 17x11 with 2 different offsets, one for the GS and the other for ZR 1's(34mm).
