the end of an era in baseball
Regardless of weather or not you love or hate the Yankees. If you have a love for the game of Baseball you have respect for iconic figures of the game past present.
Last night while shagging batting practice fly balls in the out field Mariano Rivera, The greatest closer in baseball history with 608 saves, tore the ACL in his right knee. In what has been hinted as possibly his last season you expect to see the respected and great Rivera have another great season to end his Hall of Fame career. Instead of that a tear of the ACL may not only end his season but his career, striping him of the moment he deserves, and the fans like myself anticipate to watch baseball history unfold. For fans my age and older it has amazing to watch Rivera pitch for 18 years, for one team, compiling all 608 saves. It's a complete shame that this hero of a generation of baseball fans appears to have been stripped of a proper send off. Yankee fans will remember the feeling of knowing the win was in the bag when Rivera trotted out in the ninth. Fans of opposing teams will remember hoping for a couple of broken bat bloop singles to try to squeak one out. It's a shame for a hero to go out this way |
i was devistaded when they announced this.
whenever his music hit and he ran out to the mound you were witnessing history. im disapointed i didnt get to see him pitch this year in person, and sadly he wont be throwing in any more of the games i attend. |
I'm not writing him off as done until he says so. He is the ultimate model of efficiency and consistency.
|
He MAY be finished.
I know he's up there in age and can't heal like a 22 year old but there's a chance he could be back on the field... hopefully |

Always loved watching him come out at the stadium. The place would blow up with energy towards him.

Ugh, when the Yankees posted it up on their fb, I nearly ****.
What a stupid way to go out |
i just dont want to believe the best closer in baseball history is gunna go out like this...
|
why is he shagging flys anyway? sad it happened to the great one!!! as if that team didn't have enough problems with injuries now this. ugh

He was in the outfield because it is part of his exercise plan. He has been doing it 18 years. It is in fact a freak injury. Joe Girardi has said numerous time that Rivera is not only the greatest closer ever, he is the best outfielder the team has. That says alot
|
That guy was amazing in his day. When he took the mound you knew the game was over. I wish him a speedy recovery.
|
lol im glad he's done. screw the yankees
|
lol dude you never have anything nice to say

Saw this last night. Unfortunate, and he's a class act, but no sense dwelling on it. He has everyone's support. The Yankees will be fine, and Mo will be a HOF'er soon. It's a shame he couldn't go out on his own terms. An ACL is a tough one to come back from. I know he'll want to play, but I think reason will get the best of him & he'll retire soon.
|
Great pitcher.. Hate the Yankees but He and now Raul were probably the only 2 I can stand..
|
mo says he's not going out like that. he hopes to be back in 2013
|
The yankees, who throw insane amounts of money at anything that may net them a win, can't drop the coin to have a silly ACL fixed?
|

Its not that. Its more about how long it will take him to rehab from it and at that point if its worth it to him to go back and play...

Where theres a will, theres a way, and throw in a **** ton of money, I don't see the issue here. |
So, number 42 WONT be done at age 42, with 42 postseason saves?
