Crazy Fast Buick Grand National & Some Gun Vids

Finally uploaded some of the last vids I had on my GoPro (And cell) - here they are...

At Cecil County Dragway last Wednesday night. This thing was insane, and sounded even better in person:

SRT-8 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs. Chevy Trailblazer SS:

S&W .44 Magnum:

7-30 Waters chambered Thompson Contender:

That's it for now.

good vids, what were the mods to the tbss and srt jeep? for being close, stock for stock in hp, I dont get why the jeeps beat them so bad. I have a buddy who had a slightly modded tbss, and would get eaten alive by the srt jeeps

greenformula92 06-07-2012 07:46 AM

it has to be the a combonation of gearing and wieght. the TBSS is heavy

GhostDakota 06-07-2012 08:48 AM

Hmm...

TBSS: 395/400 - 4552 lbs
SRT8: 420/420 - 4606 lbs

The SRT8 has a tuner, exhaust, intake. Not sure on the TBSS, though he did say he was modded and was running quicker than the other TBSS that was there.

What gearing? A short first is a big deal.

GhostDakota 06-07-2012 10:18 AM

Both were stock gearing. SRT8 has 3.73's and TBSS has 4.10's.

Anti_Rice_Guy 06-07-2012 10:25 AM

not sure what year that SRT8 is but first is either 3.59 (older trans) 4.696 (newer trans).

1st gear TBSS 3.06

WildBillyT 06-07-2012 10:28 AM

Jeep:
1st 3.59
2nd 2.19
3rd 1.41
4th 1.00
5th 0.83

TB:
1st 3.06:1
2nd 1.63:1
3rd 1.00:1
4th 0.70:1

Those 1-2 splits more than make up for the 3.73/4.10 deal. That's what I was getting at. It is one of the reasons why swapping from an M22 4-speed to a T56 or a TH350 to a 4L60 nets a good gain in older cars.

GhostDakota 06-07-2012 10:29 AM

All the transmissions were the same on the SRT8, the WA580 NAG1. Ratio is 3.59. The 4L60E on the TBSS is 3.059

WildBillyT 06-07-2012 10:40 AM

Launch ratios:

SRT: 13.39
TBSS: 12.54

2nd gear:

SRT: 8.16
TBSS: 6.68

That's a big difference.

Private Party pricing currently for '06 model year, with 50,000 miles, my zip code...
SRT8: $27,500
TBSS: $18,800

Huge price difference, wow.

MPG...
SRT8: 11/14
TBSS: 13/16

Stock 1/4 mile times...
SRT8: 13.4 @ 102 (Edmunds.com)
TBSS: 14.3 @ 96 (Edmunds.com)
