zraffz 10-24-2012 08:59 PM

So what I gathered out of this...
LT1 > LSx Platform. Later bitches.

Nah but we'll have to live with a poor ignition system and prone to head gasket failure. We as in you guys... I don't even own a Gen 3 or 4 motor yet.

370 gross is about 275 net hp.

First, 370 gross is the LT-1 vette number, so you'd have to compare to 300 net for the vette LT1.

1970 LT-1 engine, all accessories through a factory style exhaust yeilds ~300-310hp net at the fly. That engine was 11:1 and had great heads for the time. 360 gross in the Camaro, 370 in the Vette. FWIW I've witnessed a few dyno pulls of these motors and 300-310 is where they ended up.

1971 LT-1 engine, same deal, but different heads from '70, compression was 9:1. Factory rated at 330hp gross , puts out around 275 net at the fly.

1972 LT-1 engine, same deal, but different heads from '70 and '71, factory rated at 255 net at the fly.

But it matters not. The new LT1 blows all that **** out of the water by a very wide margin.

Anyone see the video of the new LT1 on the tilt machine? If so did you catch a glimpse at the turbo on the motor?

rickyd13 10-25-2012 12:12 AM

so whats the lt1 in the 4th gen gross

The_Bishop 10-25-2012 04:36 AM

Exactly. It's gross.

No...there is no turbo on the motor. Promise you there is no turbo LT1. And the tilt dyno vid is at the end of the link I posted.

That is a very odd question since I can't think of any reason why it matters.

I'd guess probably 320 or so. It has the same net hp as the '71 LT-1 but its accessories are probably more efficient so there's less of a jump.

They packed some nice tech into the new engine. I get the impression that it will be a bit underrated seeing as it has a lot of nice benefits over the LS3 but a relatively modest bump in power.

Seems GM has now deleted the tilt video from its official press release. Seems to me like they messed up and showed something they shouldnt have...

The video is on GMI's YT account and at the bottom of the link.

There are no turbo Gen V engines at this time. A supercharged LT4 will show up as the engine for Z06, CTS-V, and a high performance Camaro.

The other video is, in fact, the twin turbo 3.6 that will power the ATS-V and be top level engine for the CTS, non V.
