Picking up a new toy...

I've been trying to sell my AMX for a while w/o any luck, but after all I've been through lately I decided to treat myself to a new toy. I wish my wallet was big enough for a loaded Cam-ero, Charger SRT8, or Boss 302 Mustang, but the car that kept coming back into my head was an SRT4 Neon. I had one brand new in 05, but it got totaled after 6 months. I've always missed that car, and figured I'd see what was out there, and what my wallet could manage. Welp, long story short: I didn't get an SRT4 Neon, but I found a clean model of it's successor, the SRT4 Caliber. It was close by in Old Bridge, and adult owned, so it wasn't riced out. The owner owns a powder coating business, so along with our deal he is going to powder coat the wheels black for me. The car is black, so I'm on my way to building a "Mad Max, Jr" kinda car. I should be rocking it some time next week, and figure it will make a good daily driver. And I'm looking forward to rice'n, er, I mean playing with it a bit. :)

Those are fun little cars and the black powdercoated wheels will look real good. Congrats and enjoy the boost!

Thanks, Brain. Yeah, I like the fact that I can use this car as a daily and get 25+ mpg out of it while having fun. And I'm going to have to learn myself how to drive a stick again. lol. Plus I like the styling of the car, it's fugly in a cool way, kinda like me! :)

My buddy had a bone stock one. They're pretty quick. GL and have fun!

hopefully the torque steer isn't as bad on the SRT caliber as it is on the SRT neon

WayFast84 10-25-2012 05:50 PM

Sounds like it will look mean with a little bit of black tint. Good luck with it!

Thanks. Shouldn't be too bad on the t. steer. Plus I'm not a drag racer so I'll be doing everything from a roll. :)

Thanks. The guy had the windows done in "legal" tint, so it looks pretty good. He had them darker at one point, but was getting hassled by Da Law, so he went lighter.

Ironically, the owner remarked on their rarity while I was doing a test drive, and a minute or so later we saw an SRT4 Caliber exactly like his! lol:mrgreen:

I've seen that Caliber in Old Bridge a decent amount when I was driving around. Always looked clean as hell. Congrats and good luck with it!

Thanks, boss. I def know the orig. owner took good care of it, so I'm pretty stoked. :)

Good luck w/it.

BonzoHansen 10-26-2012 08:31 PM

sounds like a nice little daily driver

Blacdout96 10-26-2012 09:21 PM

Congrats UBG, smart choice. Though I'm not the biggest fan of the Caliber styling, every, and I mean every SRT4 Neon I've looked at was either as much as it was brand new, or beat to hell, and loaded with eBay grade parts. Are the Calibers AWD?

The SRT4 Caliber is FWD. No matter to me though, as this is going to be a Highway Star, not a Dragger. 8-)

thats pretty awesome! my mom has a turbo pt cruiser and cant afford the payments on it, i was thinking of paying it off for her in exchange for the title...since youve had one before is there anything i should be on the lookout for on these cars?

JL8Jeff 10-28-2012 08:13 PM

Sounds like it should be a fun car UB. When the weather gets better and you're feeling up to it, I need to take you out for a spin in the speed skiff.
