yet another ticket thread...

No excuses, or how can I beat its here despite the fact that I was paced for 2 blocks and probably could beat it in court. The officer was courteous and knocked down the initial ticket level for a 4 pt speeding to a 2 pt. I have no gripes or complaints, I was speeding and I got caught.

How ever Id simply like to ask given the plethora of ticket advice given on here in the past.

DMV driving record vs insurance points systems. How does this work???

When I was 17 I got a reckless knocked down to an unsafe (very cool prosecutor) and it cost me $500 some odd dollars. I know Ive heard its roughly a hundo a point plus the cost of whatever they end up knocking it down to. That being said is it really worth going to court and having the points removed? Its like a $95 ticket, no court appearance required. From what I remember Id be knocked down to an unsafe, no points and roughly a $300 cost.

But will paying the ticket and taking a safe driving course to have the points removed from my DMV record leave me SOL with the insurance company? does it not really matter either way? Is the insurance company going to see the speeding ticket regardless?

Its been YEARS since Ive had a moving violation, or even a damn warning.

Like I said. Not looking for a bs out. Just want to know what I should do legally. It used to be that I was all "OMG I cant have points on my license" and now I just kinda feel like its not gonna make a difference because Im pretty sure insurance will see I had a speeding ticket regardless of plea deal.

sweetbmxrider 12-29-2012 04:03 PM

Eh, if you are cool with it I would just pay the ticket and take the points. It probably varies ins carrier to carrier but I'd say about $100-150 more bucks and I'm not sure how long they hit you for it.

they dont make a difference really. until you get in that mindframe...then once that little envelope comes to your house saying you have to pay surcharges to keep your license every year it sucks. I just got done paying 3 years worth of surcharges off. I dont intend on ever looking ''down'' upon points ever again. even though it wasnt amazingly expensive...25/50 bucks a month usually, its still pretty crappy because my gf forgot to send it out once and had some troubles with that lol

its more of a pain in the ass than its worth. always try to get out of the points. take it from me lol

Get a lawyer, go to court and fight it. 2years ago i was pulled over by a Trooper on 295 while heading to work. He claimed he paced me for over a mile(b.s.) doing 85 in a 55 zone. I was driving a jeep wrangler with a 4 cyl that needed a tuneup (wasn't doing 85) and the Trooper pulled me over right in front of the 65 mph sped limit sign. Check the ticket and make sure the cop dotted every i and crossed every t.

Theres nothing wrong with the tickets other than the fact that he paced me for a very short period of time. Im just going to pay it. I havent had a moving violation in 6 years and that one I plead down to an unsafe. I have no record so **** it. Its time to stop rushing everywhere and just do the speed limit or be the caution speeder and do +5.

What happens next time a cop pulls you over because of the car you're driving, loud exhaust, you chirped wheels, etc. etc. When you try to fight it they will laugh you out of court.

I dont understand the point you're trying to make. Its not like I didnt do it and am paying the ticket.

I think he's talking about paying the ticket and getting the points put on your license - next time you get pulled over for something minor you are less likely to get a break from the officer because you already have a few points on your license.

I could be wrong, but that's what it sounds like he means....

Well to be honest this was the first time Ive been pulled over in quite a while. And Ive already slowed down because of it...

JerzLT1 01-14-2013 12:09 PM

i would pay to get out of the points and STILL TAKE IT AS A LESSON LEARNED

Yup. His point is that your record will look cleaner if you get pulled over again, and you might get lee way because of it.

1972LT1 01-18-2013 10:43 AM

That's exactly what I meant. Our cars are already cop magnets, what happens when Smokey needs to fill his quota for the month? If you have a clean record or can get a lawyer and get your tickets knocked down to obstruction of traffic orsomething similar, if you're ever pulled over wrongly (profiled) you'll do better in court.

So I just got my first ticket and was wondering how this worked out for you? How much did your insurance go up? I was thinking about paying the $200 fine and doing an online driving class to get a 2 point reduction. I got popped for 65 in a 45 on route 18 but it doesn't say how many points it will be on the ticket. If I fight it how much more of a fine would I be looking at paying?

We should also make a ticket FAQ.

1 to 14 MPH over speed limit = 2 points
15 to 29 MPH over speed limit = 4 points
30 MPH or more over speed limit = 5 points

65 in a 45 is 20mph over so your looking at a 4 point ticket
