Buying college textbooks..

anybody know any other good sites to buy new or used textbooks? the schools prices are ridiculous.. i know chegg, amazon, and ebay..

Facebook?

One of the better ideas I had in college was to keep my receipts, get buy-back quotes from the book stores, know the used worth, and find a cash middle-ground with other students so everyone wins.

Even here may be a good place to ask--Lots of college students and recent grads on here. I know I still have a bunch of books sitting in boxes collecting dust, courtesy of Rutgers and my own Senioritis.

thats what i just did today actually, got $200 for my buy backs witch wasn't bad at all.

As of right now the only textbook im sure i need is my Crim 152, intro to law enforcement. "the police in america" - samuel walker 7th edition.

I will take a look through my books from last yr and see what I have. I should have any crim justice book you would need, all newer editions

I have like 10 grand worth of useless books just sitting around, f'in tax laws changing every year for some reason

I just sold mine through half. Amazon gave me $5 before I canceled and sold it for $50 on half. I'll only use this site for buying and selling from now on.

half.com is good, but make sure you order with enough lead time for shipping. Most sellers ship media mail which is a crap shoot by the PO. I have gotten books in less than a week up to 2 weeks.

Italian Stallion 01-11-2013 11:19 AM

I'll definitely check it out..thanks guys

nice, what classes?

V 01-11-2013 01:57 PM

math 160, chem 100, communication 100, writing 101 and an ethics course

I have several OLD criminal justice books but that goes back to my classes at bergen around 99-2001 so I doubt they'd still be useful.

I only buy from half.com unless I get a professor that requires a book that nobody else seems to use

cdacda13 01-11-2013 04:48 PM

Always email/speak to your professor after you get the syllabus and ask if in older edition of the book would work. 4 out of 5 times it will suffice, you will just need to be aware the page numbers don't always match up. Some professors will have a conversion chart for you, others will tell you to find it out on your own. But old editions can be bought for a couple dollars easily.
Chegg and Amazon were my two go-tos in college. Chegg was great for the real textbooks that you needed. And amazon was great for the books and other paperbacks you needed or didn't mind getting an old edition of.

Italian Stallion 01-11-2013 05:28 PM

I checked out half.com and im getting a $125 book for a used cost of $39.. ill definitely take it!
