Painting a car

Looking to get a 63 Nova ,daily driver painted. Needs minimal body work and i would like to stay with original or close to original color. The guy i would normally use has lost use of a paint booth. Any suggestions of a shop in or near NJ?

Paul @ RPM->

I really don't need a restoration. I have been on the site and i azzumed that is what they do. I will call and ask.--Thanks

Time is my other concern. I don't want the car to be a piece of furniture at a shop.

Paul will do everything from subframe connector installations to powdercoating to ground up restos. Don't know about timing though.

What is your budget? If its a daily, i would assume no high $ spray right?

The car is real nice, so i want a good job. I'm no paint/body guy but i think i should be under $10k for a real nice job.

Am i wrong in that thinking?

I think there are a few variables:

How do you want the bodywork done? New panels vs repairs? Hammer and dolly work? Rust repair?
Do you want it skimmed in bondo, leveled, etc?
What color? Black/dark probably extra.
What type of paint, how many coats, etc?

Not trying to be negative but "real nice" is subjective. 10k won't get you "real nice" as in show quality award winning. There's too much labor involved. Body guy has to bust his ass to get a perfect finish. But it can get you "real nice" as in it will be nicer than production car paint jobs and good for cruise nights.

Body needs be skimmed and smoothed. I had some minor dents and a lower quarter patch done by a body guy.No rust that i can tell. Looking to get something close to original color which was a silver color. It is a daily driver unless there is snow/salt on the roads.

Again, i know work isn't cheap but i got two quotes from shops that i would not consider high end by any means and almost fell over. I do know of shops that do high end, show quality work but that's all they do and i don't want/need that kind of job on this car.

Car is in for paint now. Can't wait to see it done. I will post pics.

Looking forward to seeing some pics of it when it's done. I think it's great your father uses it as a daily driver still.

Here is a link to my wife's FB pics of the Nova. Some before pictures and the completed paint pictures.
Enjoy!

i like the root beer color, you dont see it too often but everytime i do it makes me wonder why more cars dont come from the factory in a color as great as that :D

elle 06-22-2013 05:06 PM

It is a bit darker than the mocha brown metallic on Chevy Tahoe's. It still needs some wheels and maybe a pin strip or something? Interior is saddle and it looks good with the exterior color IMO. Dad is happy to get it back and start driving it again. I would almost say it's too nice for a daily driver but that's what he wants.

Wow, that looks great!
