power steering

well im about to do something stupid.
but how bad is it if i dont run the power steering pump with a power steering rack? its not a daily mostly just for a cruise out. i dont mind the heavy steering.

i need to put the alternator up there and was thinking of doing this.

there are a lot of threads on tech about people doing this... change/fill the fluid and cap the lines and it seems to work at least short term
