opti
Yesterday I decided to hook up my fresh air hoses for the opti. Only to find out that when my dad "replaced" it, he only put on the vented cap and not the whole distributor. UGH! Only good news from that is the original opti is still strong after 140k miles.
I wanted to hook up the hoses bc Ive been having problems when it rains out. My guess is some water is getting up in there and causing my misfire, then everythings fine again when it dries up. Question is, with I hurt anything by only hooking up the vacuum connection, since there is no fresh air connection? |
Should be two fittings on it

He has a 94, a spline drive non-vented opti, with a vented cap on it. He can't hook up both hoses with the current configuration. I would throw the vacuum line on it and see what it does. I can't see it being detrimental. I doubt that line pulls enough vacuum to collapse the hose and the opti itself isn't going to be air tight so it will pull air through.

Yea the vented opti has the fresh air connection on the base and the vacuum connection on the cap. I found it only has the vented cap on it. I guess ill just hook it up and see what happens, I dont expect it to be a problem. Thanks for the input guys.

My msd has a hose and it t's in with a vacumn line going off the manifold by the pcv

You should be fine. Years ago there was a "kit" for about $25 to make a vent out of a nonvented. It was nothing more than a T, some vacuum hose, a small filter and silicone ( so $5 worth of material).
You tapped one hose into the air cleaner box and installed an inline filter, other into a hose on the intake, ran the two hoses into the holes in the opti ( there are 3 holes/ports ). Silicone the hoses the outside ports and plug the center port. You have the poor man's vented opti. You could do about the same, use the ports to make an inlet, and the cap connection as the vacuum port. This should help draw the Ozone and moisture out of the Opti. |
Ok. So which/where is the port that i would make to hook up the fresh air side. You said there are 3 holes. Are they the 2 small holes on the bottom if the opti base? I already have the vacuum side hooked up to the connection on the cap itself.

Plug one then insert the tube 1/8" into the other and seal it in. |
