Official grazi-ville garage build thread

Due to popular demand, heres the build thread. Work has commenced on my garage. To those who don't know, I'm in the process of building a 16x32 attached garage. It will have 13' ceiling because I hope to put a lift in the future. Yesterday, permits were issued and we got a footing inspection and we poured footings. Today the cement and block was delivered. Tomorrow we're laying the block and Monday is backfill inspection and were backfilling in the afternoon. Ill have mrs. Grazi take some pictures of block layage and ill post loads of pics of the progress. Feel free to make idiotic comments and stupid suggestions. Pics to follow.

nice build rich

good luck with it. i have a buddy who has something similar he actually put a wood burning stove in it with really high windows so if he had to do work during the cold winters he could warm himself.

Are we there yet?

Idiotic suggestion (maybe):

Radiant heat

Featherburner 04-13-2013 03:37 PM

Honest suggestion, make it bigger! I built a 30'x36'x12' and wish I had gone 36'x50'x12'.

grazi 04-13-2013 06:54 PM

Good suggestions guys. I plan on running the radiant tubing and stubbing it into basement for now. I dont have a boiler so it couldnt be hooked up now but at least it will be setup if I get boiler in the future. My other choice is a pellet stove or wood burning stove. If we do that, it will be in the future so I'm not too worried about that.
Featherburner: I wish we could have gone bigger but we have an irregulat lot 70'x907' we are limited to width. That is all we could squeeze in there. After Working out of 2 rickity sheds for 7 years, I think this will do just fine.

No garage is ever big enough. Good luck with the build

Best building for a garage? An airport hanger... LOL! Well warehouses and converted barns would do too. Seriously, that sounds like a nice project. We toyed with the idea of building a separate garage and extending the driveway to the street below. Lift, maybe space for three cars, ofc, it never happened. Theoretically, it could be done.

Suggestion - Rotate your pic.

Came home alittle early and framed walls. Should have roof framed and maybe sheathed by tomorrow afternoon.

Pouring slab over the weekend. 6" thick fiberglass reinforced. Siding and stone maybe next week or so. Better pictures coming up.

Awesome man.wish i had the room to add on another garage. Right now its the only room in the house thats truely mine but hear everyday how nice it would be for the mrs to use it. Love to do a 2.5car detached (b/c i've been know to catch sh...stuff on fire maybe/possibly..theres a chance). Don't have the footprint for it on my property. Remember though, proper lighting is essential in have a good work environment. I still work in the driveway over the garage due to this.

WildBillyT 05-01-2013 10:23 AM
