Pilot bearing/bushing removal tool
Anyone have this tool?
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/316TFAWRA5L.jpg Wondering if I can borrow it from someone so I dont have to buy it |
Have one that is similar.
|
Work well? Can borrow? Need soon, if possible for the weekend
|
Yea. I should be at my parents on Sat refinishing some metal cabinets. Do you need it before then?
|
A bushing or a bearing?
|
I"m not really local, but I have a 3 point bearing puller. I used it to pull the pilot bearing on my V(ls6/t56). At first the 3 prongs didn't fit in, but after some slight grinding it fit great and worked like a charm.

Thanks Paul, I'll let you know if it doesn't work out with WBT. This while deal is going to hold me up until I get this out. I can't put the trans up to the engine with it in there, but I just remembered I can put it on my mockup block for the mockup purposes that will hold me until I get this out. I'd rather just use the real engine since the mockup block is so light and is already off balance trying to get it in the car

I always just rent the blind hole puller from Autozone, works very well and is free
just another option |

F all that nonsense. Throw some grease in the hole and hit something that fits inside the bushing with a hammer. Hydraulic pressure will push that ****er right out #BigPal #GoneButNotForgotten
|
Or it will knock the plug in the bottom of the pilot hole into the crankcase.

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...ntifier=230517 You can use a slide hammer but I was OK with an old wrench and a hammer. If you want to meet up tomorrow I am around west NJ. Research moved to NYC and I'm not on the go. Might be easier to just get it from the 'zone though. |

BMX, I know about that trick, I've done it myself a few times. The stock LS crank pilot hole is drilled all the way through, though, and has a welch plug in the bottom of the hole, whereas the older iron didn't. I would think you'd have a good chance of knocking that plug in using the grease/hydraulic method.
