junking a car?

I have a car at my fathers house that hasnt been driven in 6 months. I want to junk it. Anybody have any suggestions on someone to use? How much do those people pay for the junk car generally?

Its a 2003 subaru forester auto with 180k on it. To be drivable it would need a new hub and brakes all the way around hence why I would like to junk it.

Thanks

Why not try selling it for cheap? Scrap is pretty low, you won't get much and I don't know how bad the junk guys will undercut you. Better off trying to call local yards and see if they will pick it up. They usually buy clean cars for a decent price because they will part it out. Get on the phone and see what your area has to offer. Make sure you have the title in hand.

Dont have title..not sure where it is. The car was maintained horribly so I wouldnt want to sell it to anybody.

I'd still call yards, you'd get a better price. Let them know you don't have a title. You might have to fill out a form. You might not be able to get rid of it either, you are supposed to have a title.

+1, if you dont have the title then you may be SOL. Your alternative would be to cut it up and scrap it that way

Junking it yourself without a title isn't going to happen.

If you call a company to come get it, like adam said you may have to just fill out a form.

Some places claim they'll give 500 for junk cars, don't expect anything more than that.

I know for a complete car with title if I take it to a certain place I'd get 4-500 with no middle man.
Bare shells get like 90 bucks.

To get a new title, go to DMV, bring an old reg or insurance card, your DL, and fill out a form, its $60 and you'll have a duplicate title.

I know people that have junked without a title as long as you have a registration card

I have no way to get it to a yard with the broken hub...I figured I would get 200ish...wasnt thinking more.

A yard by me will come get the car. You are cutting out the middle man. I suggested calling around to see if any yards will do that for you. They will give you more if its a clean running car since they will part it out.

Haha...im going to see if I can sort out the title issue. My father passed last week and I dont see the title in the paper work and the car is basically worth nothing...hence why I was just trying to junk it cause I have to sell the property.

I tried junking a truck without a title. No one would take it. I called one of those 1-800 junk for the kids or blind people and they took it. Gave me a few bucks but I just wanted it gone.

grazi 08-01-2013 06:29 PM

Not sure if its worth the trip but there's a place here that will for sure take it for couple hundred.

I've had cars towed away from La Casa unstable w/o a title...just call around and 'splain your situation.

There is a guy up here who I think has taken cars from us without a title. I seem to recall a car or two being junked without a title. If you cut it up and scrap it that way there will be no questions asked, all you'd need is a couple buddies, a sawzall, and several blades. I know because I scrapped my Outback that way. Sold a bunch of stuff, but the shell alone got me around 110 bucks including parts of the rear suspension and the like. I am sure if I drove it up there I probably would have gotten maybe 300 or 400. Hubs are a nightmare job on those and require a press, Brakes are fairly easy. Why not post it on craigslist for parts or whole for 500-750 bucks. I eventually walked away after parting the outback with 1500 or so bucks. I still have parts to sell. Eventually may just scrap the rest of it though.
