LCA Question
I reciently bought a pair of single adjustable LCA's. Rod end on one side, just a sleeve on the other.
How should they be mounted in the car? Rod end on the chassis side or the rear side? |
When you say just a sleeve is it a bushing?
|
It doesnt have a bushing on the one end. Its literally a slight interference fit with a sleeve.
It will def be a harsh ride. Just want to make sure i mount it properly. Im assuming the rod end goes to the body. The manufacturer is JDI performance, which is no longer in business, so I couldnt get ahold of anyone. Im waiting for my email to recieve the pics I sent myself so I can post them on here. Ive never seen a control arm not have a bushing(cept for rod ends and the like). |
If it completely soild on one end sell them and get something else, but to answer your question the rod end would usuallt go on the axle side if they had a poly bushing on the other side as the more common ones do.
|
Yeah, solid on one end is going to be bad times. You need some rotational ability on both sides.
|
Yea i figured it would be a harsh ride. Would it cause any damage to the frame from DDing the car on these b/c of the lack of flex on the solid end?
Photobucket isnt working for me right now or else id have the pics of these on here |
Yes, it will damage the lower control arm mounts, especially daily driving.
|
Ok thats what I thought. Just thinkin out loud here, but what would be the difference in putting the solid end on the rear and the rod end on the body? If any?
|
None at all. I wouldn't run those on anything; the solid sleeve end is going to bind the *crap* out of the rear suspension when the axle needs to rotate while the suspension moves. Aside from it damaging your suspension mounting points, it will introduce nasty snap-oversteer, making the car very difficult to control if not outright too dangerous to drive. It'll convert the rear axle into a large swingarm with no side to side rotational ability.
|
i have a feeling they may not be true solid. if they are an aftermarket part, i can't see any company making those. once you most pics we can tell for sure.
|
Unless they are home made, "solid" doesn't exist
|
Pics would help, tremendously.

Sorry if these links dont work. photobucket is not letting me copy the direct links.

Looks like that goes to the body side and the sleeve is inserted before mounting them. The bolt passes through the sleeve. The rod end allows for axle articulation. |
Are those circle track LCA's?

I honestly dont know. I tried calling the number on the sticker and it went to someone cell phone voice mail and the web address goes to something other than JDI performance. |
I don't think the sleeve is the right part. It has a grease fitting for a poly bushing on there. Looks like a halved ass version of the umi delta joint. I have a set of umi double adjustable rod end lca's for sale if you can figure these out.
I would NOT run them with just that sleeve in there. Too much friction and slop |

It looks way to close to be a delta. If that is a metal on metal sleeve and is supposed to be that way I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole
|
Well....I just got off the phone with the people. They are supposed to be that way(no bushing), he said they are for drag race use only, and confirmed what you all were saying about tearing the body apart with street use. I asked him how they are supposed to be mounted, he said with the rod end on the body, but it doesnt really matter either way.
GREAT!! Well I def dont want to use these. Mike I would def take you up on the UMI's, need to save some moneys for them tho. How much are you looking to get for them? |
130, they are in my part out thread

But with that said. On my vert I have the poly side on the body to keep noise at a minimum. I also upgraded to the Spohn del-sphere joints to with delrin. |
