reputable remanufactured marine engines

looking like going to need a new motor in my dads boat. 5.7 small block. just wondering if anyone has had an experiences good or bad with remanufactured marine engines. just looking for advice on who to stay away from or who was good to use. will also speak to my machine shop to see if them rebuilding the engine is a cost effective option. sounds like engine has a rod knock... thanks for any help

You doing labor etc yourself or planning on having it done?

When the motor in our boat let go, my dad had the marina replace with one from here

~$2500 for the shortblock. Alpha OD is limited HP wise so don't attempt to over power it with a newer/bigger motor etc.

We got a reman Merc motor for the boat and have been happy with it.

Not to get off topic, but if its saltwater cooled, I would factor in replacing the manifolds, risers, and elbows. Assuming they haven't been replaced in the past few years, those and maybe bellows just to be safe.

Make sure to snag a alignment tool, but you prob can sneak by with just using mounts as is, be careful not to lose their height etc if you go that route.

Rick's Marina sourced the motor and installed it for us. There's always ads in the Boat Shopper/Salty Dog for crate motors.

+1 on what Matt said. We did all of that too, since saltwater got into the block, which caused a miss and boom.

did bellows when motor was out this summer and new manifolds and risers also.. so all that is brand new..
