exhaust connection question...

so changing the connection of my over axle pipe on my car. its currently a slip-fit type pipe with an old style exhaust clamp. had to cut the pipe with a sawzall just to get the muffler out because couldnt get the joint to separate. so now so i dont wanna deal with that ever again i want to change the connection type and it needs to compact in size so i know about the v-clamps but also found this style and was wondering if anyone has ever used them and how they worked if so. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/su...2-ss/overview/ . v clamps would work great but its going to be more work because they dont have any pipe attached to them so id have to get extra pipe to use them and make that work. and v clamps are going to be triple the price..

The mid pipes on my ARH exhaust uses that type of joint and it seems to work well. I had it apart a few times and it seals well when reinstalled.

I have a V band clamp assembly if you wanna mock it up under there Beckster. They come with pipe on each side, you just butt weld it to the exhaust.

Stainless though.

wait your v-clamps came with pipe attacched? because most of the ones if seen just give you two rings and a clamp. and thanks john good to know someone is using them and they work. that was the answer i was looking for

matt can you snap a pic of your v-band clamps or measure how much length of pipe they gave you on them? if its enough maybe ill get em from where ever you did

hmm ok thanks... i dont think thats gonna be enough of play room for me.. i dont know why they dont make these with more length to them

LTb1ow 11-11-2013 08:07 PM

machined piece, costs money to add length

transmaro93 11-11-2013 08:16 PM

figures.. i know v-clamp is probably better than the ball socket design but it more money and extra work.. hmm what to do

Matt, where did you buy the V bands?

They are a Summit house brand clamp.

Gonna see how well they seal if I can figure out SS to mild steel welding.

The_Bishop 11-12-2013 11:27 AM

You can go two ways: Weld it just like mild steel. The joint will be prone to rust, just like mild steel. Weld it like stainless steel, joint will be rust-resistant.

Nothing too magical.
