engine compatibility

question guys.. i have a 96 z28 and i wonder if i can drop in a 94 firebird motor without having any problems with harness computer or without doing any mods on my 96 camaro.. thanks..

Short answer, no.

Long answer, yes, you need to swap timing covers and swap the reluctor from the 96 motor onto the 94. Otherwise, should be the only major thing, you will need to reuse the optispark from the 94 though.

I think Matt means reuse the opti from the 96. You also need to use the hub from the 96 as it is a little shorter to compensate for the reluctor. You will need to change the cam timing gear on the 94 to run the 96 opti, too.

96 optispark won't work on a 94 cam, no?

Good point but 94 opti wont work on a 96 timing cover either.

Edit, Either tune out the crank sensor and run the 94 motor as is or do a cam swap and run the 96 cover and reluctor.

D'oH, its late

So yea, lil more complicated, but def doable.

Aren't the plugs different on the opti's too?
