Shipping a transmission
How do you guys go about doing it?
I'm trying to avoid a $300 shipping bill... I've sent a 4L60E minus the bellhousing, tailshaft and converter in a regular UPS box... but how do I go about sending a regular style trans? Any insight or help. |
Where does it have to go?

When I had mine rebuilt by Tick, I purchased a larger plastic container and sent it that way. I bought a nice container with wheels, had the inside padded/packed thoroughly, well taped, etc etc. Some folks have had issues doing this but I think for most, it works out fine.
I don't see you getting out of a significant bill based on weight/size of a full trans though. |

I shipped a sbc short block to Missouri vis Old Dominion freight. Wrapped it , strapped it to a pallet and sent it. Must be commercial address for pick up and drop off though. I think it was under $200. Some people on YB have claimed to use Greyhound Bus?

If commercial address's are whats needed, thats not a problem... Theyre a busniess and I am too... |
Is there no one local that can do the work? Or is this warranty work?

Pallet/boxed up and strapped/screwed down to it. I've gotten things delivered through R&L, seem to offer decent pricing.

I did want to send to to PTC in Al, but I think I'm going to head to trans specalities in PA instead, just due to distance. |
I've never had a prob with TS. Bought a few converters from them, 1 trans and they rebuilt 1 also. Easy drive and they sometimes fix same day. good luck!
