motorcycle storage

figure I would give this a try before putting it somewhere else

I need a place to store my motorcycle for the winter, does anyone have any space where they wouldn't mind keeping it? must be indoors (not really concerned with climate control) of course we would work out a price for it.

Or if anyone can recommend a safe, and affordable place to keep it for the winter months I would appreciate the input.

Thanks in advance
admins: feel free to move this if its in the wrong spot

i might have a friend in hillsborough who can store it.

He is hopefully taking my VFR750. I'll keep you posted.

If he doesnt take my bike, I'm in the same boat as you! lol

foxriderry 10-06-2014 11:50 AM

haha maybe we'll have to split a storage unit, the price is pretty outrageous for one of those things, in two months I would be paying more than the insurance on the bike lol

ThoR294 10-06-2014 12:40 PM

I know. Lol. Where are you located?

foxriderry 10-06-2014 01:06 PM

Clifton, I guess that woulda been a good thing to add to the thread

ThoR294 10-06-2014 01:17 PM

How much do they charge by you for a storage rental? I'm north of you and a rental for a car is $161/month and can rent month to month. I assume a smaller unit 5x5 or 5x10 would be half that. Not too bad.

WayFast84 10-06-2014 03:21 PM

Call your local bike dealership. Sometimes they have storage.

foxriderry 10-06-2014 03:43 PM

I called a place today, for a 5x10 its $125 a month and its right in town with access from 6 am - 10 pm, an extra $10 for 24 hour access, I need to store it like tomorrow and having access to ride the bike while the weather is still nice is a definite plus, and they're in town as well so that is kinda great

ThoR294 10-06-2014 04:54 PM

thats still ~$600 for winter storage. yuck

Try craigslist, I got a 26x26 garage for $140 a month.

foxriderry 10-07-2014 07:32 AM

i looked on craigslist, but I dunno I got kinda skeeved out, I just don't like the thought of leaving it in like someones garage off of that website it wouldn't take much to pick it up and put it in the back of a truck, I think ill probably go with the storage unit

LTb1ow 10-07-2014 10:38 AM

$600 for the winter? Damn, you can leave it in my garage for that price

yeah for reals. You MUST know someone who can store it for you for $100 or something. Hell, if I had a garage I'd let people store bikes in it lol

For $650 you could buy yourself one of those Rubbermaid sheds and store it at your house - if you have the property for it of course...

ThoR294 10-08-2014 10:03 AM

I'm in a condominium, so I'm beat. Plus im renting lol

foxriderry 10-08-2014 12:23 PM

yeah no space at my house, plus those Rubbermaid sheds don't offer any climate control at all, im not sure I would be to thrilled about letting it freeze all winter, I mean I don't think that would be good for the oil or gas inside of it, hey thor294 before u store you bike, what all do u usually do to it? this will be my first winter so I think im gonna take it to a place and have them change the oil and get it all ready than im gonna top it off with gas and stabilizer and put her to bed

ThoR294 10-08-2014 12:33 PM

I honestly havent put stabilizer in, but I just make sure I turn the fuel thing off and run the bike till it dies so there is no fuel in the carbs so no chance for it to gunk up.

Stabil will help. I don't change the oil every season as I put the better honda oil in it, so i am going to change it every 5k. I would disconnect the battery or put a battery tender on it so the battery doesn't die.

stupid question but could you bring it inside your condo if its ground level thru a sliding door? late night recon mission if you will for the winter months. If its in a multi-level complex I understand, however some complex's have indoor parking garages.

ThoR294 10-08-2014 02:36 PM

haha. I should be able to store mine in my buddies garage. He only has room for my bike :(

I am on the 1st level, so I thought about it. GF would murder me though haha

I know at least two people that did this. One of them actually had the bike in his bedroom lol

grazi 10-10-2014 03:36 PM

If your in a jam bring it up my garage. I have room for $50 a month if you want.
