Air Bag Module Reprogramming

Looking to buy a non fired SDM and bags from a similar year truck. Can a tech2 program the SDM to match the VIN/setup of my truck?

You would need the Tech 2 to match the VIN with the BCM and SDM. Most modules require specific programming in which case you would need access to GM Service Programming System.

If you load your VIN here you'll be able to see all of the programming options. If you get a module from a similar vehicle with the same RPO's you may be able to get away with only relearning the VIN. https://tis2web.service.gm.com/tis2web

If I can use a tech2 and the tis2web than that is awesome.

My concern is how to figure out if I can actually reprogram the SDM, don't wanna buy one and then find out that its locked. GM seems to play hush hush with this sorta of stuff.

Edit: Looks like SDM or anything related to air bags is not in the tis2web with my VIN...?

Typically if a module does not show up in Tis2Web there is no specific programming for it and you would just need to learn the VIN. Tis2Web is just informational, you would need SPS to obtain programming files.

Never had an issue with an SDM. Most of the modules I've had reject programming were PCM's and IPC's.

OK, just feel like with the info I have right now buying a used SDM is a gamble with regards to reprogramming my VIN into it.
