Sorry for not buying a new car

I know how much the folks here at New Jersey Import and F Body Owners Association like threads where they can recommend their fav Imports to prospective new car buyers, but sorry, I'm not buying a new car. I'm bringing a car back from the dead. My 03 Cavalier, which I've owned for over 10 years, will be getting a new lease on life. I got it with 8k miles on the clock, and it now has 193k on the clock. But it has served me well, and basically only needs an exhaust and struts to be road worthy again. The A/C doesn't work but summer will be over eventually. And it makes for a fine winter beater. So, the credit card came out, Rock Auto and EBay were searched, and a staycation at the end of this month will get it back on the road. And best of all, it's made by a company called Chevrolet. Some of you Import lovers might have heard of them. They also make a car called the Camaro. Lol

A 2003 GM car was made in the USA? News to me.

What threads are you referring to?

Nothing wrong with fixing old stuff. No car payment! Plus it is made by the right manufacturer

I was recently given my future Mother-in-law's old car (03 focus ZX3) to daily. AC don't work either, front sway bar endlinks are bad... just a few stops at rockauto and it'll be back into shape. Wish it was a 5 speed though.

It is made my ferd though :( not chebby

You still going with the hyper milage-looking theme with those moon eye, sorta, hubcaps?

You still machining the rims of those train wheels?
And which engine were you putting anti-freeze into the coolant? You never re-replied

ar0ck 07-13-2017 08:54 AM

As long as it keeps those high speed gas-mileage saving wheels I'm all for it!

Technically, the tires and hubcaps would be the ones saving money, not the wheel

Anti_Rice_Guy 07-13-2017 09:30 AM

I remember Jen's Cavalier made it 300 or 400k miles with no major problems.

No hyper mileing. I lost enough of those hubcaps to prolly buy a new car from buying replacements. Lol. No more machining train rims. And I had to put anti freeze into the coolant of the air cooled engine's motor.

And see the Diesel Cruze thread for all the Import love being spread.

After WWII GM cars should have been built in Japan and Germany.

Need to find yourself a Saab 9-3 with the Ecotech 2.0 turbo in it. There's a low boost and high boost version. I've seen a couple float through the local u-pull it around here, would be a cool setup in that rocket of your UBG

I considered the GM supercharger set up years back.

ThoR294 07-22-2017 02:16 PM

Yup, the very same. I got ready to yank out for a Fiero, but it was gone when I went back. Wish GM would drop a 2.0T in the Cruze RS so it'd have some balls in it's class.

Might want to look for a 2.4 VVT version and drop the supercharger setup on it, that could be the new group party/hangout build for NJFBOA

I think you should drop in a GN or GTP v6 and go from there. I may have had a few adult beverages but believe this is a good idea.

Any idea that makes a car uber fast is generally a good idea.

GTP's are starting to become common in the yards too. Get a used Duramax turbo, get some turbo manifolds and intake and become the ultimate sleeper it was meant to be.
