Track Rental - Island Dragway - Friday OCtober 24, 2025

		Friday 10:00am-4:00pm on 10/24/2025
Island Dragway 20 Island Road, Great Meadows, NJ 08783 www.islanddragway.com Gates open at 10:00 am and racing begins at 11:00. Tech inspection for all vehicles racing is at the new location (right by the staging lanes) and hopefully everyone can get through it relatively easily. Tech inspectors have been pretty thorough and strict in recent years, so beware of that. Make sure your own personal safety gear is in order, including expiration dates on helmets, harness belts, etc). If anyone needs direct guidance on tech inspection, just reach out to me or one of the usual racers for clarification. The dragstrip will be prepping both lanes of the track with glue up to the 330 foot mark. Since we typically have a variety of street-tread and race-tread vehicles, I want to try to isolate one lane of the track for drag-compound tires, at least for the first few hours of the rental. On the day of the event, if our group wants to keep it this way or change it halfway through the day, I'm sure we can figure it out. Especially for any grudge-racing or side-by-side video footage. The other option could be to keep both lanes open, but encourage all street-treaded tire vehicles to move themself out of the starting line groove. Suggestions welcome on this topic. The cost per-driver is going to be $200. That is the true cost per-person on Island's website and I will probably stick with that price going forward. In years past, I gave a little discount in price to the drivers who registered early, but it came out of my pocket, so this year I am just going to keep it simple with the $200 price across the board. The event is limited to 40 vehicles, and I will keep an updated roster of people who are confirmed/paid. If someone pays and has to back out I will get them their money back for sure. If you get to the track and don't make ANY passes (car is broke, or doesn't pass tech inspection), I can also get you your money back. However, once you start making passes, the track will expect the full $200 fee and I have to abide by that. If issues arise, I can do what I can to work with ya. If you are going to be driving multiple cars that day, you will need to obviously pay for each vehicle. Last minute registering is possible, but I have got to have payment-in-hand before you start filling out a tech-card. I can accept payment via paypal and Zelle, send me a private message or an email and I will provide my info to you. We have had some pretty good video/photo footage from the previous years too, and if anyone wants to attend that has camera skills, please do so! Spectators are allowed and in previous years, the cost has been free to spectate. So far, I have 9 people paid in full and another dozen who are confirmed YES for the event.
Still about a month to go, so don't forget about this as October goes by fast. |

Friday was the track rental at Island and we had a good turnout with 27 cars/trucks making passes. Over 300 timeslips were handed out. A good mix of muscle cars, modern muscle, some trucks, and drag cars. This year we did not have any motorcycles. The D.A. numbers were great all day long and we only had a minor amount of wind. Tech inspection was not nearly as tight as recent years and nobody had any problems that I was made aware of. There was no rain during the whole event, but after packing up for the day, as luck would have it, it rained for the drive home, like usual.
Jerry took a whole bunch of photos. I tried to get photos in between making passes and whatnot, there is a link to my flickr folder below as well as some included photos. Jerry got us 7 pizza's on his dime, and we were all thankful. I saw a whole bunch of people sharing tools and helping each other out all day long, so that was awesome. I think we did pretty good with the way the lanes were allocated, but maybe we can take the cone away from the right lane earlier on next time; we can discuss that for sure. I have to type up my car's recap and put it on my build thread, but I made 11 passes on the day. My 4 all motor passes were great, and resulted in a new PB (both e.t. and mph) with an 11.47 at 117.2 mph (and 7.25 at 97.1 mph in the 8th mile). Made 7 nitrous passes (on one bottle) and despite getting a new PB (in e.t.) it was definitely not a clean pass; went 10.55 at only 123.3 mph (and 6.64 at 104.7 in the 8th mile). I spent LOTS of time in the revv limiter on ALL of my terrible nitrous passes, but more on that topic in my build thread. the photo album is https://www.flickr.com/photos/iroczm...77720329938431 Feel free to save, share, or use the photos however you want to. Make sure to checkout Jerry's link for a few hundred photos: https://photos.app.goo.gl/mNwe7hxkHdr2GUNLA I was told that a few very short clips of Friday's action were on the island dragway facebook page https://www.facebook.com/reel/1350975519713883. Quick link to a video I put on youtube showing some of our cars as I was driving through the pits. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYpWJqgXx4A I plan on doing this event again next Fall season; possibly in September, or keeping it in October. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...0e125c5f_z.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...79224093_z.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...e8db2f05_z.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...7d746471_z.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...d2763620_z.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...164144de_z.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...f0521a15_z.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...5f432a7c_z.jpg drove home from the track in the rain again (see hood)... what else is new ! https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...1ab1ca44_z.jpg |

How did everyone do? I haven't seen an s2k in years, and what did the fullsize Pontiac run?

Bunch of people hit some new personal bests. That pontiac was fun to watch. He would do a one-wheel-peel in the right lane for 300 feet smokin' one tire. He was in the lane next to me for my third pass and he went 16.6 at 89 mph with a 2.64 sixty foot.
